GoldLink is a young rising artist from Washington DC and a member of the Squaaash Club who has built in less than 20 tracks (remixes and original tracks) a solid musical base that he self-describes as “future bounce”. At the age of 21 only, he found his place in this exciting internet community which is currently redefining the sound of beats and hip-hop (Kaytranada, Lastic, Ta-Ku and so on). By the way, he already collaborated with some of them: “Sober Thoughts”, one of his highlight and most famous tracks, was produced by the Canadian producer Kaytranada; On “On You” he worked with the amazing Chet Faker…He also collaborated with and Kali Uchis, Lakim and Louie Lastic on his 2014 debut mixtape “The God Complex”.
Chuck Allen, Way Less Effort: “The racing mind of a 20-year old is usually not a romantically stable place, so you will often hear GoldLink battling the worries and woes of his love life. However, with the mental and social acuity of someone far beyond his years, it is not out of the ordinary to find GoldLink tackling a larger social injustice. Whether it be dealing cocaine, gun-toting friends, an absent father, or the general hardship of growing up in the ghetto, there is substance behind the sound.”
His debut album is quite an exciting event! “And After That, We Didn’t Talk” will be released on November 13 via the Los Angeles-based collective of Soulection. It will feature collaborations of Galimatias, Medasin, Tom Misch, Louie Lastic and from our July newcomer of the week Demo Taped. The lead single is called “Spectrum” and starts with a sample of Missy Elliot!
