It’s Summer ‘16 and the OVO Sound movement is in full swing – Drake was first up at bat, but with “Views” coming and going, it’s time for some fresh air – Roy Woods is that dude. “How I Feel” has the OVO-signee effortlessly weaving through a rapping/singing hybrid that’s evocative of the burgeoning Toronto hip-hop scene.
“How I Feel” is a drowsy, yet lucid snapshot of where Roy Woods head is at!
At only 20 years old, Roy Woods has been catapulted to the limelight of arenas around the world (He’s going on tour with Drake this coming fall) and has been stepping up his music-game as a result of it. “How I Feel” is a drowsy, yet lucid snapshot of where Woods’ head is at. Instead of writing clever punchlines, he chooses to meticulously hone his flow over atmospheric production and let us know just how focused he is on his own rise to stardom with lines like, “I got to make moves, no sleep all week in my room, Got another song to write right now, That songs about you.”
If you take a look at his Soundcloud page, you can hear just how focused he’s been on his own evolution as an artist and commitment to deepening his expertise of the singing/rapping 808-assisted melodies, especially through his last release, “Exis”. Roy’s definitely one to watch as he builds up to releasing his new project “Waking at Dawn” later this year.
