With her soulful, introspective, and atmospheric approach, London’s George Riley delivered one of our favorite projects of 2022 in the form of Running In Waves. The rising singer-songwriter has now announced her new EP, Un​/​limited Love, which she introduced with the single “Elixir.” Produced by Godmode‘s Nick Sylvester, the track features old-school house textures, softly-set keys, and gradually emerging synths, showcasing a dancier side of Riley. With Hudson Mohawke, John FM, and Actress also credited on the 6-track project, Un​/​limited Love is poised to be one of the finest electro-R&B releases of 2023.

UK producer Darren Cunningham aka Actress recently announced the release of Karma & Desire, only a few months after his enigmatic instrumental project 88. Following up to the Sampha-assisted closing track “Walking Flames,” he has now unveiled two new tracks. LA-based producer Aura T-09 is credited on “Loveless” while the floating “Angels Pharmacy” features vocals from New York’s rising talent Zsela. Listen and pre-order the album via Bandcamp below.

It feels like I’ve been waiting to hear new music from Lydia Ainsworth for ages! She had been quiet since her stunning debut “Right From Real”. (Only) Three years later, Ainsworth is back with her gothic-ish drama-theatrical pop that blows you away from the first to the last second. Please check her live when you can!

Jay Som – Baybee:

Melina Duterte aka Jay Som is the cutest (and the craziest), check this video. The Polyvinyl-signee sounds like the perfect match between Frankie Cosmos and Mitski. The guitar riddle in “Baybee” on a Monday morning is just the best. And on Tuesday too. Oh and all the other days.

Elohim – Skinny Legs:

When you miss the trash pop of Crystal Castles, you should check out Elohim! It’s more polished and Georgia-like but the dirty synths slapping you in the face could be an Ethan Kath without dopamine.

Stuff. – Galapagos:

Lander Gyselinck is one of the best Belgian musicians of recent years. With his avant-garde jazzband he’s reinventing himself and the band time after time. “Galapagos” starts with a sloppy synths allowing a funky bass to make Stuff. One of the freshest contemporary jazz music.

Charli XCX – Roll With Me & ILY2:

2017 will be the year of Charli XCX! I know it seems quick to say, but you can’t deny I might be right. Charli’s Vroom Vroom EP out last year was the best pop we heard and it’s hard to image someone doing better, bigger and poppier this year than what she’s doing on her new mixtape Number 1 Angel. It’s no coincidence the only current alt-pop artist as good – or even better – than Charli is Art Angel Grimes.

TOPS – Petals:

If I get the chance to tour with one band in the whole world, it definitely would be TOPS. Jeanne Penny & co always seem to enjoy touring and performing so much – which is one of their greatest features. After three years I was finally able to push “Way To Be Loved” earworm out of my head, that they were ready to pull their new “Petals” right in!

CASI – The Beast:

She’s at the edge of a breakthrough, playing her first American show ever at the Pukkelpop stage at SXSW. The PC Music-ish Casi – she’s all about pink – is the new weird pop star to follow! The instrumentals in Casi’s third single “The Beast” refer to the title while she’s doubtlessly “The Beauty” in the story.

Little Dragon – Sweet:

It’s sad “Ritual Union” is still the only Little Dragon song earning frequent airplay. Yukimi Nagano’s previous LP “Nabuma Rubberband” included massive singles as “Klapp Klapp” or “Paris”. Her show at Pukkelpop a few years ago was overwhelming. As is ther new banger “Sweet”.
