Chanel Beads Reimagines LEYA‘s “Corners”

One of the EP’s standout tracks, “Corners,” gets a striking rework from rising underground pop talent Chanel Beads. Shane Lavers breathes new life into the song with his signature collage-like production—spacious, emotional, and grounded in a rhythmic rap-pop sensibility. “Reworking this song I tried to make something that felt like the moments before and after their sets. Like anticipating something and then wondering where it went,” Lavers shared. The remix, featuring Maya McGrory on vocals and Zachary Paul on violin, arrives alongside a hazy, self-shot visual starring model Mariah Morvant.

Alexandra Drewchin, better known as Eartheater, has just announced a new album, Phoenix: Flames Are Dew Upon My Skin. For this new project, which is announced today with the single “How To Fight,” the avant-pop artist drew inspiration from geological imagery as seen on the incandescent, lava-covered artwork. This is actually not a surprise as her tracks posses a seismic emotional resonance.

Phoenix: Flames Are Dew Upon My Skin was self-composed, produced, and arranged during a 10-week artist residency in Zaragoza, in Spain, and features contributions from the Spanish conservatory group Ensemble de Camara as well as LEYA’s Marilu Donovan and Adam Markiewicz, with who she recently released a collaborative EP.

Following up to the dramatic and hypnotic “Below The Clavicle,” the lead single, “How To Fight,” renews with acoustic guitar and combines combativity with sensuality; everything we can expect from a graceful bird made of fire. Eartheater sings that she knows how to fight, fuck, die and resurrect her pride. The track also comes with a self-directed video starring Eartheater and the dancer Chucky Rosario with who she executes an ambiguous dance in between pleasure and pain.
