A few weeks ago, TOPS‘s Marta Cikojevic made her solo debut as Marci with the track “Entertainment.” The artist is now back with a new single, “Immaterial Girl,” which precedes the release of her debut album. “I wanted to make people happy. I wanted to make people feel like they could dance even when there was negativity,” Cikojevic explains about the self-titled record. Crafted in collaboration with her bandmate David Carriere, Marci also features contributions from the likes of Mitch Davis, Rene Wilson, Austin Tufts (Braids) on drums, Chloé Soldevila (Anemone), Adam Byczkowski (Better Person) as well as TOPS‘ Jane Penny on backing vocals.

In April, Montreal musician and photographer Tess Roby will unveil the follow up to her 2018 debut record Beacon. The self-produced project is introduced today with “Ideas of Space,” a celestial track with mesmerizing synths and haunting vocals. The drums, courtesy of Austin Tufts, give the single a sense of suspense, a mysterious feeling that also permeates the crepuscular self-directed video. Known for being a half of Montreal electronic duo Majical Cloudz, singer-songwriter Devon Welsh is going solo for some time now and after a series of singles, he has finally announced the release of his debut solo album. According to the press release, the ten tracks of “Dream Songs”, which are produced by Austin Tufts of Braids, are inspired by the passing of seasons and the intricacies of love.

Coming with this announcement, Devon Welsh has also shared the opening track “By The Daylight” and a Christopher Honeywell-directed video. There’s a feeling of fatality in this new song. “Life often seems like a catastrophe of one kind or another, events seem out of our control. Sometimes it feels like we’re just swept along in a tide we don’t really understand, and this song is about experiencing that feeling.” says the artist. Earlier this year, Braids, the Montreal-based trio consisting of Raphaelle Standell-Preston, Austin Tufts, and Taylor Smith, released their amazing third album Deep In The Iris, which is their most pop-oriented so far and was shortlisted of the 2015 Polaris Music Prize. Following the video to the opening single “Miniskirt”, another highlight of the record, “Taste”, just got a video treatment. The song was actually inspired by Stephen Chbosky‘s book The Perks of Being a Wallflower and a quote from Don DeLillo’s White Noise.

Directed by Kevan Funk, who was already in charge of “Miniskirt” visuals, and released via Nowness, the gorgeous body-positive video features singer Raphaelle Standell, ballet dancers, and a series of naked persons with very different physical traits. About the concept, director Kevan Funk detailed:

[su_quote]I see this as a series of scenes of various people (all different ages, races, orientations), mostly in their homes, naked. I see it as these scenes that would almost feel a bit like portraiture, these images that have a mixture of being beautiful and in someways haunting. Maybe just people alone, maybe together, not entirely sure. I like the idea of the viewer projecting this idea on to the individuals, that refrain of ‘we experience the love that we think we deserve’ somehow leading us to assume the type of life these people have had, who and how they love and have been loved.[/su_quote]
