“This series has meant the world to me ever since I moved to Berlin and really began DJing,” she wrote in an Instagram post. “So being invited to contribute feels surreal in the best way. The mix is a celebration of the music that shaped me, tracing a journey from Peru to Berlin and through all the cities I’ve been lucky enough to play along the way.”

The tracks transition from dance-fueled peaks to softer, personal moments of introspection for Kourtesis, shaped by the grief she felt after losing her mother. The mix includes four exclusive tracks that Kourtesis created herself including “It’s You,” “Texas Changing,” “A Brief Look In Your Eyes” and “Los Poemas No Siempre Riman (DJ-Kicks),” which she recorded with Afro-Peruvian group Novalima. Other music from talented producers that we at HighClouds love are also featured on the mix including Jon Hopkins, Daphni (Cariobu), Myd, Axel Boman, Avalon Emerson, Nick León, and many others. Built around the idea of not just accepting change but fully embracing it, the sophomore album of her pop alias draws from five years of constant movement, from international DJing to relocating between Berlin, Los Angeles, and New York (a theme that was already very present in the “Eden” video). It’s a personal, time-spanning project that reflects growth both on and off the road. After seeing how the first album translated from the studio to larger stages, Avalon leaned into dynamics and energy this time, shaping a body of work that’s band-driven, groove-forward, and made to live and breathe in performance.

Alongside the album news comes the new single “Jupiter and Mars,” written and produced with Rostam Batmanglij, who was a founding member of the band Vampire Weekend, and paired with a video directed by Ben Turok. Airy and bright, the song captures a feeling of connection and creative play. Avalon sums up the spirit of the sessions perfectly: “I loved chasing this song with Rostam almost as much as our two little dogs loved chasing each other around the studio.”

“‘Eden’ is the voyage along the endless river carved between mountains of joy and loss, of experience and exhaustion,” Avalon Emerson explains. “We glide over a teeming riverbed of relationships and love, revealing the path itself is the point.” The track also reflects the creative momentum she’s been building since signing to Dead Oceans earlier this year. It grew out of her first studio session with Bullion after wrapping the & the Charm live tour in late 2023, a moment that made her realize this musical lane wasn’t “just a detour from DJing and dance music, but the entrance to a deep cave, full of passages to wander.”
