Based out of Atlanta, Bathe is the dream-pop solo project of multi-instrumentalist and VYB bassist Bailey Crone. Following up on “The Silence“, a floating and intimate track about loneliness and anxiety, Crone has just unveiled her second offering of 2019. In “Tarot Cards”, the one-woman band furthers her oneirism and languidness, punctuating the whole track with cathartic electric guitars drawing on shoegaze. Bathe aims to create songs you can “lay on the floor and stare at the ceiling to,” as she likes to explain. You can definitely do that while contemplating your own life but beware of not losing yourself in her hazy reverb.

Following up on their impressive debut single “Sure Shot“, Bathe are back with a silky and groovy new track that defines a bit more their surf R&B aesthetic. Indeed, the duo comprising singer-songwriter Devin Hobdy and guitarist-producer Corey Smith-West blurs once again the lines between indie and R&B with a freshness and an ease reminiscent of Blood Orange and Frank Ocean.

Like them, they also don’t hesitate to explore the most sensitive and vulnerable sides of masculinity. With the romantic and introspective “Kimmi”, the boys try to understand why their one-night stand didn’t lead to something serious, turning the song into “an opportunity for all of us to make peace with the unknown in our interpersonal relationships.” Listen below.

Hailing from Brooklyn, Bathe is the surf R&B project headed by singer-songwriter Devin Hobdy and guitarist-producer Corey Smith-West. After five years of work, the two twenty-something made their grand entrance some months ago with “Sure Shot”, an ethereal, left-field debut single loaded with caressing guitar lines and soulful vocals.

Bathe have now released a Cameron Michael Debe-directed video for the track. Innocent at first, the beautiful visuals, which were shot in their neighbourhood of Brooklyn with a casting of kids, subtly address violence and injustice through a disarming final scene. Watch below.
