Today, we take a small liberty to propose you the immersive and inspired instrumental debut ‘Scenescape’ by Berlin’s duo MATTOKIND.

Today, we take a small liberty to propose you the immersive and inspired instrumental debut ‘Scenescape’ by Berlin’s duo MATTOKIND.

MATTOKIND is a recent project that consists of classical musician Jae and producer Cristiano (‘matto’ means ‘crazy’ in Italian and ‘kind’ is the German word for ‘kid’). They accidently met in a Berlin’s club and started to talk about music before eventually creating something together. Jae is a classical violonist, Cristiano is a producer and their collaboration is the proof that culture mixing is a source of richness. Indeed, their fusion of genres, in between neo-classical music, IDM and electronica, appears as particularly inspired, offering a cinematic music that goes further and deeper than simple sounds.

About this project, the duo MATTOKIND explained:

[su_quote]Both of us wanted to start a new life in Berlin after doing the same kind of job for many years. Jae as a freelance classical violinist and Cristiano as a producer who could never find the time to make his own music. We found what we were looking for in each other – love and also a vocation[/su_quote]

Cristiano added:

[su_quote]The first time we really started experimenting together was when we found ourselves in between homes, feeling a little lost and temporarily staying at a friend’s house, who happened to have a beautiful Steinway concert grand in the living room. One evening Jae sat on the piano and started bashing out some sad sounding chords and Cristiano started sampling it on his laptop – that was the beginning of our collaboration… Subsequently we holed ourselves up in our studio that winter and finished the production of the EP.[/su_quote]

The fruit of this collaboration is an EP to come in September and you can already listen to the debut and title track ‘Scenescape’ below. Connect with MATTOKIND via Facebook, Twitter and SoundCloud.SoundCloud.

Brussels is a crazy city. It’s the capital of Belgium, and the heart of Europe. But it is still a small capital, where you can meet discrete creative people along some narrow and crooked streets. Marie Reiter was born in Brussels and is one of these persons for sure.

Even if Marie Reiter is now based in Berlin, a city that seems to satisfy her appetite for cheese, her heart remains Belgian. The singer-songwriter is getting ready to release a new album, “Nazareth“, which is a collection of electronica and dream-pop tracks. As her music perfectly fits the season of leaves falling, it was the perfect moment to meet her and to share with her about this new release.

1) Who is Marie Reiter?

Someone who likes to make music 🙂 I’m a Belgian singer-songwriter, based in Berlin. It’s the first time that I’m releasing material under my own name, but I’ve been playing with the band “The Poem Is You” for many years.

2) How would you describe your music?

Actually, the first three tracks that I’ve released are a good representation of what you’ll hear on the rest of the record: some beats, a bit of folk, poppy tunes and many vocal overdubs. Topic wise, “Nazareth” is one long story about love, about finding it and losing it. In more general terms, I’d describe my music as the romanticised result of coming to terms with things going on in and outside of me.

[su_spacer]
[soundcloud url=”https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/287299929″ params=”color=ff5500&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false” width=”100%” height=”166″ iframe=”true” /]
[su_spacer]

3) When did you move to Berlin? What was the change on your creative process?

I’ve been in Berlin for quite some time, more than ten years already. Before moving there and meeting the persons with whom I ended up making music, I was already playing music, but I wasn’t writing, really. So the change was quite significant. I learned to take the time to put words and sounds on thoughts and emotions.

[su_spacer]
[soundcloud url=”https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/280560393″ params=”color=ff5500&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false” width=”100%” height=”166″ iframe=”true” /]
[su_spacer]

4) What do you miss about Brussels? What do you find in Berlin that was missing in Belgium?

My job allows me to regularly spend time in Brussels, which means that I don’t have to miss much at all and that I have the luxury of taking the best from both cities. But, beyond my friends, family and beer, I’d say that what I miss most about Brussels when in Berlin is just walking through the city. Its streets and houses have much more charm than Berlin’s, I think. In Berlin and thanks to the people I met there (it’s all about the people, isn’t it) I found ways to make space, mentally and physically, to be productive and to focus on things that give me satisfaction, more than on things that “make sense”, if that makes any sense. And halloumi. I found tons of halloumi in Berlin.

5) So far, we heard 3 tracks from your upcoming LP “Nazareth” and they all sound different… What can we expect from this album?

Even more different sounds 🙂 Though there is a guiding thread throughout the record. The tracks were written and recorded quite fast after each other, in the past year, and they’re all closely related to each other. It’s really just one story told through ten songs, each in their own way.

[su_spacer]
[su_spacer]

“Limbo”, “Yesterday”, and “Burn”, will be featured on the upcoming LP “Nazareth”, due to be released on January 13, 2017.

[su_dropcap style=”simple”]O[/su_dropcap]ur newcomer of the week won’t stay labeled like this for a long time. Indeed, Sam Setton has all the ingredients to satisfy curious and discerning ears like yours! With his electro-pop debut track “Berlin”, Sam Setton is bringing fire and soul from the future!

Sam Setton is a real citizen of NYC: he grew up n the Midwood section of Brooklyn but is now living in downtown Manhattan. The self-taught singer-songwriter started to play guitar and singing around 12. He has experimented and explored sounds for years, and you can hear that in his track that sounds like a real patchwork. Basically, Sam Setton picked up what was the best in pop , electronica, and soul music!

His two main influences have been Frank Ocean and Alex Turner of the Arctic Monkeys, for his writing at least… Because there can be no doubt that he is, above all, a genuine music lover. John Mayer, Tame Impala, or even grime artists, like Skepta, are often present in his own playlists!

Currently, the artist is working in a midtown skyscraper as a financial consultant. Maybe the height is a source of inspiration: when you are at the top, you have a certain vision! Like a superhero, at night he becomes a technician working enclosed in his studio. Sam Setton occasionally plays at open mic events, talent shows and small showcases in the Big Apple. “Berlin” should enable him to reach new horizons and opportunities!

We guess music means a lot to him, more than his regular job, as he describes it like “an escape”. As written in the press release: “his music springs from this struggle”. That is probably why his debut track sounds deep, honest and convincing. As the 23-year-old singer explains:

[su_quote]”Berlin is a song I wrote about the constant struggle of being in a toxic relationship. On the surface there’s honesty; feelings of regret, love and hate. But at the core, there is a hope that with patience, things will work out.”[/su_quote]

Discover Sam Setton and his impressive debut “Berlin”. A track that is, like the city, a relevant crossroads of music genres!

What is coming next for the young artist? An EP is in preparation and a series of remixes! With “Berlin” as a title, the track deserves to be brought to the dance floor!

Follow Sam Setton on Facebook, Soundcloud, Instagram, and Spotify.
[su_dropcap style=”simple”]R[/su_dropcap]y Cuming, that you probably know as RY X, is an Australian singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist that notably broke through the music scene with his amazing track “Berlin” already two years ago. His voice is emotional and intimate and when he sings he is like a ghost which speaks personally to you, even if the room where he plays is crowded. The artist is back with “Only”, a thrilling and soft track that was recorded live to tape LA’s Pulse Studio. The track was premiered on Annie Mac‘s Radio 1 show.

All different styles, cultures, music genres were commuting in the same place where a lot of culture were born. New Order were naturally incredibly inspired by all this era.

[su_dropcap style=”simple”]B[/su_dropcap]erlin is a famous city for its parties. In the beginning of December will happen the 3hd Festival , a festival of contemporary music and art. To celebrate it, 333 Boyz, a band based in Berlin dropped their new EP “Pink Freak” via the 3hd platform in collaboration with Creamcake.

333 Boyz is composed of Sam Lubicz and Liam Morrison, two visual artists, producers and DJs from Los Angeles and now based in Berlin. They’re getting quite known right now in the Berlin night scene as the most intriguing DJs over there.
The EP is a part of Creamcake‘s night club which is an extension of the 3hd Festival which happens between the 2nd and the 5th of December.
“Pink Freak” is a great experimental club record, it will make you want to dance, sweat glitters and party all night long on that plastic pop music. In this EP they sampled, “Boom Clap” of Charli XCX, “Pass The Ball” of Lil B, and some others.

[soundcloud url=”https://api.soundcloud.com/playlists/160240049″ params=”color=ff5500&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false” width=”100%” height=”450″ iframe=”true” /]

The whole “Pink Freak” EP is available for free download.

Sorry for that but Jared Inn Thacutt would describe it as ;

I warned you. I’m not the one who said it.
