Montreal’s Born At Midnite, the collaborative “faux-vanity” project between TOPS‘s David Carriere and Amery Sandford aka Alpen Glow, follow up to their 2020 self-titled debut EP with a new double single.

The side A single, “Pop Charts,” was actually unveiled a few weeks ago and you don’t wanna miss the video, animated by Sandford, which is reminiscent of Daft Punk‘s anime Interstella 555, in a funnier – and more DIY – version : it features some music charts, a malicious manager, a lonely pop star, and an AI-controlled replica.

Today, they unveil the second track and video, “Cruise Control,” which “examines the dissonance between apocalypse hysteria and just wanting to chill.” Watch and support via Bandcamp below.

Montreal new duo Born At Midnite, comprising Amery Sandford and David Carriere, have just unveiled the second part of their debut 7″. After the stellar “Born At Midnite (Everytime),” they’re back with another slice of leftfield and lo-fi pop: “Hawt Heart.” Like with the previous offering, there’s something irresistibly dance-y here (basement party style), even if the track is actually about a “crap situation”. In their own words:

[su_quote]Anytime we get together to make a song, we try and start with a very simple theme or idea and then work back from it to make it a little more abstract. The lyrics came together for this one shortly after we had gotten home from a hardcore show in Montreal that blew our minds. We blasted the instrumental of ‘Hawt Heart’ that we had recorded during our pre-game earlier that night. We decided that the track should be about being at a weird party, or in a generally crap situation, but it’s in the end you have a lot of fun because of the friends that you’re with.[/su_quote]

Hailing from Montreal, Born At Midnite is a brand new duo comprising TOPS‘ producer, songwriter, and guitarist David Carriere and BBQT‘s songstress Amery Sandford. Formed in late 2018, the pair have just unveiled their unpinnable and exhilarating debut single, “Born At Midnite (Every Time).” We won’t even try to label that one but here’s a hint taken from the band’s bio, if it helps you in any way: “Playing into whilst poking fun at our era’s omnipresent narcissism and self-indulgence, the group stitch together an unsponsored sort of ‘product-placement-punk’.”
