Serbian-Canadian musician Dana Gavanski is following up her debut album, Yesterday Is One, with a companion EP made of covers. Crafted during the lockdown in her temporary home in London, the Wind Songs EP was introduced last month by a gorgeous rendition of “I Talk To The Wind,” originally performed by King Crimson. She has now unveiled “At Last I Am Free,” the second cover lifted from the 5-track project.

“At Last I Am Free” was written by Bernard Edwards and Nile Rodgers and initially sung by Chic back in 1978. Although the lyrics are fraught with uncertainty, which makes it a timely release considering the worldwide situation, this new version acts as a combination of solace and hope thanks to Dana‘s bewitching and delicate delivery. “Often we have to go a little far in one direction to learn something about ourselves,” she says, looking at the future with an optimistic gaze despite the surrounding chaos.
