When she doesn’t have a viscous octopus on the head, Stockholm artist COBRAH wears leather and latex outfits and muzzles her mouth with a gag-ball. It doesn’t mean that the up and coming artist has nothing to say, though. In a few months only, she has caught the attention of the tastemakers with her electro-pop bangers nourished by lust and anxiety.

Drawing inspiration from the vogue scene and pointing out the flaws of our modern world, COBRAH‘s music have nothing to envy to SOPHIE‘s forward-thinking sound architecture. Abrasive and immediate, dance-y and disconcerting, the artist’s universe shakes up both the body and the mind.

From her stunning debut video “IDFKA” – which received a nomination at the Swedish Grammy – to her very own version of Night at the Museum, COBRAH has also developed a strong, idiosyncratic visual identity in parallel to her music.

With her fetish and queer aesthetic, Swedish artist COBRAH pushes the boundaries of pop music. Besides her challenging and highly digitalized soundscapes, she has also imposed her singular visual style. Indeed, the video of her first single “IDFKA” received a well-deserved nomination at the Swedish GRAMMY. And her brand new clip, “Glue,” is also set to make waves.

Crafted in collaboration with 3D sculptor Lars Gunnar Thorell and director Erik Hellmouth, COBRAH’s new video “Glue” brings the viewer into an eerie, uncanny museum where copulating alien-like sculptures turn to life. The disconcerting video perfectly resonates with the sleazy and distorted vibes of the song. About the clip, she stated:

COBRAH is the fetish and queer electro-art project of a quite mysterious Swedish artist. Following up on her impressive debut track “IDFKA” and accompanying video (which received a nomination at the Swedish Grammy Awards for the Director of the Year), she’s now back with a twirling and sleazy new single “Wet”.

Drawing as much from the quirky synths and pitched up vocals of game-changing producer SOPHIE than from the cyberpunk, robotics and AI visual universe, COBRAH unleashes an aptly named banger that will make you produce a lot of fluids and sweat from all the parts of your body. One day, Oscar Wilde said that “everything in the world is about sex except sex. Sex is about power.” This adage dictates the creative process of COBRAH, an up and coming artist who firstly established herself in the Swedish fetish club scene. As a queer performer, she has used sexuality and its representations as tools to express power and freedom. These two values stand out in her debut track “IDFKA” and its accompanying visuals.

Her futuristic pop banger “IDFKA” is both liberating and political. It’s a pulsating electronic production which draws its fierceness from the vogue syncopations but its cyber-punk slogans also convey a feeling of fear and panic. Cloning, reproduction, overcrowding, artificial intelligence, waste accumulation… All these controversial topics and issues are represented in the dystopian and claustrophobic video that the artist co-directed with Erik Hellmouth. Although COBRAH‘s debut track is released today on the imprint GAGBALL, don’t think that the fetish artist is going to keep her mouth closed.
