Although opening on an atmospheric sound worthy of the best BBC documentaries about wildlife in the seabed, it quickly appears to head towards the firmament. The song takes off mostly thanks to the craft of LA-based singer Sophie Dimitroff, who achieves the unachievable, namely to mix nu-soul and raggatton without pastiching neither Amy Winehouse nor Rihanna. In her elegant sincerity, the frontgirl of idesia calls to mind English songwriter Ady Suleiman, who shares with her an unrivaled gift for graceful introspection.

But what strikes most in her interpretation is her vocal agility. The words vibrate so precisely through the air you could almost see them. As for the instruments, they seem to spin around like a hot air current, allowing the voice to elevate, without ever conflicting with it. The guitar soothes with its quiet ostinato, while bass and drums support cloudy synths travelling in circles. By the end of the song, I hadn’t paid much attention to what was happening here – for I was already in « foreign skies ».
