Following up to the excellent “Faultline“, which featured vocals from Ed Droste of Grizzly Bear and was producted by Kingdom, Los Angeles-based vocalist, songwriter, and visual director DEDE is back today with her maxi-single “Golden Divine”. In the spring of 2017, the artist, who was also known to be the vocalist of Brooklyn’s trio Tiny Hearts, announced the release of her solo debut album, “Panoply”, and this new track tells us now what it will be about.

DEDE‘s new single “Golden Drive” is cold beauty. Her singular and mystical vocal performance, which reminds us of Alison Goldfrapp at times, take possession of a futuristic and melancholic synth-pop production to finally turn into a unique and almost unreal rendition. The whole album will touch on topics such as isolation, loss, sensuality, and identity and we are definitely excited to hear more from the rising pop artist.

DEDE met Ed Droste at a party via a friend. They quickly started talking politics and watched some debates together. With the election of Trump, they eventually decided to write a song.

On Pitchfork, DEDE said:

[su_quote]We both couldn’t shake the feeling of impending doom in the aftermath of the election. The song is a reflection of how we were feeling at that time.[/su_quote]

As a response, “Faultline” is a dramatic R&B ballad, a love song for the end of the world. The synergy between DEDE and Droste‘s vocals is magic and the producer Kingdom is even “cooing on the backing vocals” (according to his own tweet).

At midnight the day of his Inauguration, the White House’s LGBT rights page, and some other ones, simply disappeared. Moreover, while his entrance into the White House was massively ignored by the public, he was welcomed by unprecedented demonstrations not only in the US but all over the world.

In his video for “Fuchsia”, Thed Jewel dances to remain strong, loud, and fierce while facing hate, ostracism and negative stereotyping.

In his latest track “Fuchsia”, the up and coming artist Thed Jewel tackles the prejudice he daily has to face as a gay black rapper in a divided country. In a recent interview, he explained to us that the colors “black” and “fuschia” are commonly used to describe the bad, the feminine, the childish, and the soft. He raps about the absurdity of these concepts and he claims in his own way that despite what people think of you, you have to remain strong, loud, and fierce while facing hate, ostracism and negative stereotyping.

Thed Jewel co-directed the official video of “Fuchsia” with DEDE. The rapper is masked and lists a series of stereotypes and his dance moves are like an attempt to free himself from labels. A release that is emphasised by a sample of an old song sang originally in prisons. The video was shot by Box 24 Studio and edited by Spencer Lee.
