Josianne Boivin has recently released a new EP under her moniker MUNYA, unveiling the closing track “Some More” at the same time. The hazy pop track was born from a real-life conflict where she was confronted by her sister’s boyfriend about her (non-)situation. “He told me I was a loser because I had no apartment, no money, no husband, no children. It devasted me. I cried all night, and then I wrote this song,” she said.

No one is immune to life accidents and when it happens to you, you often need to ask yourself real and deep questions to move on. What is important for me? What do I want to fight for? Her vaguely depressed and multi-layered new song “Some More” is the incarnation of this process and sounds like a misty anthem dedicated to the people who did not succeed yet in their life.

Québécois musician Josie Boivin, better known as MUNYA, will unveil her sophomore EP very soon. So far, we’ve heard the title track “Hotel Delmano” and the second single is for the first time sung in English. In this hazy and spatial atmosphere, MUNYA is intermingling good-byes and alien references. About the track, she stated:

One night, years later I was home alone and I kept hearing really weird loud noises, not like a truck driving by, but a truck crashing into a building over and over. It freaked me out so bad I called my boyfriend and told him that if I’m gone tomorrow it’s because of aliens…he wouldn’t stop laughing at me. I was so mad he wouldn’t take me seriously I didn’t sleep that night and instead I wrote this breakup song.[/su_quote]

Josie Bovin, better known as MUNYA, has just announced the second part of her EP trilogy for later this year. The follow up to “North Hatley” will also feature 3 tracks and we can already listen to the first single. The retro-infused “Hotel Delmano” draws from French nouvelle vague of synthetic and psychedelic pop embodied by artists like Halo Maud, Agar Agar and Flavien Berger, amongst others, and by teeming label La Souterraine. The single, which is named after a real hotel of Williamsburg, interweaves elegant synth-folk arrangements with surrealist and dreamlike lyrics. Its cosy atmosphere is definitely cinematic and brings us into the refined interior of this place we don’t even know. It’s a sparkling new offering from the Quebec’s singer-songwriter and we can’t wait to hear the two other songs of her upcoming EP.
