With such an intense background, the music almost seems light. In between electronic beats and vocals reminding the likes of HONNE, the new artist remains pretty open about what inspired his music. As a way to break the taboo over people with fertility issues, Hazy decided to just open up and tell to everyone his story. We discussed with him about his debut, how he started making music and which time of the day is the best to listen to his music.

Highclouds: Can you first introduce yourself and tell us a bit about how you started creating music?

I’m Charlie Treanor, and I write, produce and perform my music under the name HAZY. I was born in Hong Kong, and currently live in Manchester to study and write. As a kid I started writing on my old family piano. I still do when I come home to visit.

Who are your main influences?

I’m influenced by various tracks, and musical elements that grip me, disregarding how varied each artist or style is. Particularly influential artists: Mura masa, NAO, Bon Iver, James Blake.

What can you tell us about your debut “Dragonfly”?

About the song: I am an IVF (in vitro fertilization) twin and before I was born my parents experienced various miscarriages like many other people with fertility issues. “Dragonfly” follows the life span of a dragonfly managing to outlive the babies that didn’t make it. It’s upsetting but bittersweet. I’m grateful for what it’s meant for me.

Can you describe your creative process?

Every track is written differently to keep the process fresh. I record and produce the track as it’s written and experiment as I go.

Why did you decide to release this song as your debut? How does it represent your music?

I’m excited to kick off with it. It feels suitable to follow it up with other unique tracks.
