What a long way Elohim has come since the release of her debut tracks “She Talks Too Much” and “Xanax” in 2015. As her career started at the same time than HighClouds, we are clearly suffering from the comparison.

Following up to her recent collaboration with Yoshi Flower on “Panic Attacks,” the classically-trained pianist, singer-songwriter and producer will unveil her debut album this Friday. In the wake of this announcement, Elohim has just dropped a brand new single which doesn’t disappoint. “Half Love” already sounds like a federating pop track with its massive hook, captivating chorus and dance-y sax section. Be ready to shake it “all the way”.

In her single, the artist shares her stories about being a child who doesn’t have money and doesn’t care about yours now. What’s more important than wealth? love. The artist will be touring in the next months in the US as she announced it on her Facebook. Elohim stated about the meaning of the track over a press release:

[su_quote]I grew up with very little money. My parents put all of their focus on our well being; learning the joy of music, feeding us organic food, and living a life full of LOVE. We didn’t have the fancy cars, the nice houses or expensive possessions. When my mom could feel my sadness as I discovered we were ‘different’ from other families, she’d remind me, “we are rich with love.” I didn’t fully grasp the incredible importance of those words until recently. Love has become my main focus in life and i now know how priceless it truly is.[/su_quote]

She continues with this new banger, her perfect experimentation in between catchy pop lyrics and egdy electronic synths, creating danceable yet always melancholic tunes. She released this new track while touring in the US with Alison Wonderland and Jai Wolf, that will finish at the end of the year. But intense touring doesn’t seem to stop her inspiration.

The artist is a Toronto-based musician who is currently dominating the electronic scene. He is quickly becoming one of the recognizable names in electronic music, along with electronic pop duo Louis The Child. I’m personally a fan of both musical acts, and especially the song “Love Is Alive”. Chet Porter takes that track, and transforms it to something of his own.

Louis The Child’s original version of “Love Is Alive” is super chill, slower track. My favorite part is the super solid bassline that really packs a punch.  It had a much more laid-back, muted vibe to it. He takes the cooler, fall feel to the original and injects some summer and sun to it.

Deviating a bit from the indie-pop sound he typically infuses into his music, Chet Porter forays (successfully) into some unfamiliar territory, away from his comfort zone. He tries out a heavier, more synthy type of sound. The bassline is bouncy and pulsates through the build ups and the drops. The synths saturate through the track, and bring in something sparkling and bright. If it could be described as a flavor, it would be something sweet and effervescent. The vocals are faded, and almost echoey. There’s a particular distinctness to them. Elohim has a voice that’s really pleasant, and works really well with the music, blending and immersing itself with the sounds. There’s a warmth to the words she sings, but there’s also a very clear-cut crispness to the quality as well.

There’s so much energy to his remix and can’t help but evoke the feeling you get when the afternoon sun gently kisses you from your fingertips to your forehead. It’s radiant and seeps through your body, warming you inside out. “Love Is Alive” really is just one of those “feel good” songs. He preserves the sweet and soothing nature of the original, but injects a brilliant and dance-y energy to it. As the last couple days of the summer slowly wind down, and the world is rapidly approaching the apocalypse, this honestly quite lovely remix of “Love Is Alive” by Chet Porter will remind me that there’s still love worth dancing for out there.

“Skinny Legs” being her most recent track has embodied her quest for strength in its entirety. This psychedelic, electronic track brings human emotions, even the darkest kinds to life. From anxiety to self-doubt, she exposes her emotions through her music and not her physical persona. Even if you’ll never see her face in its entirety, she has portrayed her experimental alternative sound into something euphoric. It’s different, it’s honest and in a way, it’s freeing.

Her music video for “Skinny Legs” is a challenge to the mind. Not only for its psychedelic features, but for the chaos and conflict within. The young girl featured is outstanding. Shifting from her younger self to an older female figure, portrayed by Elohim, this video reflects anxiety spoken in the music, and it momentarily provides glimpses of defeat, control and awareness.

There’s a constant battle between control within, and being controlled by outer influences and in the moments of stillness, you can really feel the emotions. In the end, after all the havoc and stress, there is sadness and a desperate hunger for complete freedom; either from oneself, another, or an idea, it’s a piece of art that can be interpreted in so many powerful ways.

When you miss the trash pop of Crystal Castles, you should check out Elohim! It’s more polished and Georgia-like but the dirty synths slapping you in the face could be an Ethan Kath without dopamine.

Stuff. – Galapagos:

Lander Gyselinck is one of the best Belgian musicians of recent years. With his avant-garde jazzband he’s reinventing himself and the band time after time. “Galapagos” starts with a sloppy synths allowing a funky bass to make Stuff. One of the freshest contemporary jazz music.

YES, you read that right. When we stated that she was creative, it was the least we could say, since she is once again proving us that she is exploring the limits of pop music. Creating a bridge in between cold electronic instruments with sounds coming directly from the Mexican folklore, Elohim embraces the frontiers in between different genres of music and the result is just exquisite. As her persona still remains pretty mysterious for us, Elohim allows herself, thanks to her anonymity, to capture her own freedom and explore different boundaries, creating her unique patchwork of sounds.
