This time he created a playlist for la TIGRESA, a party that takes place this Saturday in Brussels. The party is described as the night that is “bringing you caliente realness with a spicy touch of camp! From Britney to Whitney to Jenny to Lupita. Just fun, beats, drinks & sing-a-longs!”. If that doesn’t work for you as a good preview of what you can expect from the party, we really don’t know what they have to do. The sunny weather in Brussels predicted the beautiful night that we had. A weather like that doesn’t happen that much for it to be noticed. The entire park invested by the venue was full of people coming here to enjoy music, and as the concert took place in the marquee built in the park specially for the festival, we could enjoy the sun, the food and sitting on the stairs to contemplate the beauty of Botanique. I always have been a fan of the venue and last night wasn’t an exception.

The concert started with the Lille/Paris-based band Rocky that surprised us by their entertaining live and refreshing sound. As the concert started, because of the weather, we were only two in the big room. They screamed “ARE YOU READY”, we screamed “YES” but actually we weren’t ready for the pleasant surprise that we had. Mixing many genres and sounds, the quartet is the perfect example of a cosmopolitan melting-pot. In their Facebook page, they quote many references raging from LCD Soundsystem to Crystal Waters and Talking Heads, showing their versality when it comes to creating sounds for themselves. Their debut album “Soft Machines” was played with strong energy and we clearly had fun during the concert, converting me into a fan.

After a short break, the concert of multi-instrumentalist Youngr started. We actually missed the beginning of the show as we were enjoying a delicious croque-monsieur outside, and we didn’t expect for the room to become a giant club when we were gone. Hidden behind an enormous quantity of instruments, the artist plays in between drums and electronic sounds, making the entire room travel to Ibiza in two seconds to dance. As we weren’t ready to find ourselves in a club at 8pm, we got back outside to look for beers to put us in the mood. It was rather hard to connect with the artist as we could barely see him, but the crowd did definitely enjoy the show.

The night finished with the concert of Hercules & Love Affair who are currently touring to present their soon-to-be released fourth album announced thanks to their single “Controller“. I was first surprised that there were kids in the audience, told my friend “Do their parents know that their last single is about BDSM love?” and we laughed. As the concert evolved, we started noticing that we actually didn’t know any of the songs they were playing. After 5 songs, Andy Butler, the founder of the collective, said, amused “You are such a great crowd! We played already 5 songs that you don’t know and you are still here!”. Currently based in Belgium, they didn’t forget to thank us for being so kind and told us that their sound has entirely been created in our country. You’re welcome, Andy!

We started the #Nuits17 by going to a marquee turn into a club for the evening by Hercules & Love Affair, Youngr and Rocky.

At #Nuits17, when they played their classics such as “My House” and their first hit “Blind”, they put the audience on fire and created a special communion in between fans. We danced like it was a Saturday night, and actually drank a bit, creating a perfect little Monday morning hangover. Their new album sounds in the continuity of their previous albums, with a touch of pop. Their latest release “The Feast of the Broken Heart” unveiled in 2014 was focused on more electronic and cold vibes. We still don’t know much about the LP besides that it will be “a lot about spirituality”, as said by Butler himself to The Fader. We can’t wait!

Our journey at the #Nuits17 continues tonight with the concert of Magnus, Agar Agar and Whispering Sons.

As a blog based in Brussels, we pay special attention to the acts coming from our country, as you can see it in our column “Belgitunes“. In our last playlist, “20 songs from artists based in Belgium, you can already find songs from Warhaus that will be playing at Cirque Royal on the 20th, Wuman that will be opening for Fishbach on the 14th and Robbing Millions that will be playing with BRNS at Cirque Royal on the 17th.

Brussels-based trio Pale Grey will be celebrating the release of their EP on the 15th and our favorite duo Rive will play their debut EP “Vermillon” on the 18th. Electronic acts Monolithe Noir and Le Motel will be playing on the 13th and the 15th, and Lubiana and Hydrogen Sea on the 19th at the Grand Salon De Concert. And to end our Belgian selection, the hip hop collaborators Caballero and JeanJass will be playing on the 19th at the Orangerie.

Our French neighbors are also very represented on this edition with the concert of the French Björk called Camille that will be presentating, on the 12th, her new album “Ouï” set to be released in June. One of our favorite newcomers and selected in our promising list for this year, Agar Agar, will be opening for Magnus, on the 15th and Jacques, one of our favorite gigs of 2016, will be back on the 17th at the Cirque Royal.

French songstress Juliette Armanet will be presenting her perfect combination of piano and beautiful texts on the 18th and Frànçois & the Atlas Mountains their combination of indie with catchy pop on the 20th. One explosive night is preparing itself on the 20th with three of the most exciting pop acts that France has to offer: Bagarre, L’Impératrice and Her.

This year, the Nuits Bota 2017 will definitely not disappoint you with their innovative selection of the best artists.

As party goers and people who like to dance, we couldn’t let the electronic genre on the side. With acts as Romare (13th), FKJ (13th), Hercules & Love Affair (14th) and Youngr (14th), we are ready to party! It’s not a big surprise that we are huge fans of Kelly Lee Owens, specially after the release of her debut self-titled album. With her pure techno release, she will for sure make travel into the unknown. The Nuits Bota are also preparing for you an afterparty on the 22th where artists such as Babyfather and Zebra Katz will be ready to burn down the house.

As is it important for us to promote female acts, as you can see in our Homocore section, we also are going to pay a lot of attention to all of the rock and folk singers represented during the Nuits Bota. Artists such as Chantal Acda and Angel Olsen have been liked by many of our writers as they know how to show emotions thoughout their music.

Quartet The Big Moon will be opening for the incredible Jesca Hoop, on the 12th, being one of most expected nights of the entire festival. And last but not least, we couldn’t miss to mention the trio, that is comprised of two women, Cherry Glazerr that will be playing on the 17th.

As boys are not forgotten, we made a little selection of a few of them. Thomas Azier will be playing on the 18th with our friends of Rive, Ulrika Spacek will be playing on the 16th as an opening act for Communions and Asgeir on the same day at the Cirque Royal. And we finish our (very extensive) selection with Alex Cameron that will be playing on the 19th and Kele Okereke that will be playing on the last days of the Nuits on the 21th.
