Two years after Voyage to Mars, MUNYA is readying the release of her sophomore album. Jardin will be out this Fall but Josie Boivin already shared two track off the record, that was entirely co-produced with Kainalu. “This album is about the people who raised me, the people who inspire me, those who made me the artist I am today,” she detailed.

We can already listen to the opener “Hello Hi” as well as “Un Deux Trois,” which comes with an Otium-directed video, in which MUNYA is chasing another woman (Greta Akopov) in the streets of New York.

“MUNYA has always paid homage to Giorgio Moroder; I referenced him as early as 2018 when I released my first song,” Boivin says. “This song is a tribute to him and the music he’s inspired, like Daft Punk’s incredible ‘Giorgio by Moroder.’ When Daft Punk broke up after 28 years, I was devastated, because they were among my favorite artists. You can hear Moroder’s influence throughout Jardin, but this song is specifically for Daft Punk and all those who have loved Moroder’s music. He’s contributed so much to my career as an artist as he did theirs. Plus, the world needs more music like Daft Punk and Giorgio Moroder.”

Following her excellent 2018 EP trilogy, Josie Boivin, aka MUNYA, has just announced the release of her debut album, Voyage to Mars. These cosmos and space travel references have always been present in her music, from “If I’m Gone Tomorrow (It’s Because Of Aliens)” to the more recent “Dove” and “Boca Chica.” However, MUNYA‘s music is much more than a than a one-way ticket to space. After her single “Andy & Paola,” in support of the healthcare professionals around the world, Montreal based Josie Boivin aka MUNYA has just released another song inspired by the pandemic. “Boca Chica” is a luminous offering, a smile, a slice of cheesy solace to ease your quarantine. So open your windows, and play it to your neighbours.

“The world is upside down, we don’t know when this is going to end and what the long term effects are going to be…but I know we have to keep dreaming,” she explained. “‘Boca Chica’ is the name of a town in Texas where SpaceX is building dreams, they are building a starship to Mars. I know a Starship is not going to save any lives today, but I also know that the science and technology we create from these programs will help shape the future for the best just as the Space race did in the 60’s. My dream is that we realize we are one, realize we are all in this together, that we all need to help each other and that we can do the impossible if we do it together and keep dreaming.”

Earlier this year, Quebec-born artist Josie Boivin aka MUNYA enchanted us with her synth-folk EP trilogy. She’s now back with a new track in French, “Dove”, which sounds like a spring tableau. Starting with the sweet twittering of birds, the dreamy and poetic track was inspired by a mama dove that was nesting just outside her window. Listen below.

Québécois singer-songwriter and producer Josie Boivin, also known as MUNYA, shares today “Benjamin”, the second song taken from her upcoming Blue Pine EP. The 3-track project is the final installment of her EP trilogy to be released as a full-length compilation on March 8.

While the amazing lead single “It’s All About You” was focusing on the pain caused by obsessive love, her new offering is the testimony of an artist who has learnt from her heartbreaks. Written for the first time both in French and English, “Benjamin” is the proof that wounds of love are not insurmountable and that it is possible to develop feelings again. The song comes with dreamy synth arrangements and breathy, caressing vocals that have become the artist’s signature.

A famous American philosopher once sang “Do you believe in life after love?” but we will prefer MUNYA‘s own statement this time:

In this hazy and spatial atmosphere, MUNYA is intermingling good-byes and alien references. About the track, she stated:

It freaked me out so bad I called my boyfriend and told him that if I’m gone tomorrow it’s because of aliens…he wouldn’t stop laughing at me. I was so mad he wouldn’t take me seriously I didn’t sleep that night and instead I wrote this breakup song.[/su_quote]
