Tundra – My Love:

Driving through vibrant cities or beautiful landscapes is one of my favourite things in the world to do, especially when the accompanied soundtrack is kind of hypnotical. Try playing M83’s music while driving through a tunnel for example. Wouldn’t it be the best if a band/artist’s pseudonym was just “Tunnel” or “Savanna” or … Ok, no it’d be boring but with Tundra’s music I can see myself driving through a tundra landscape endlessly.

NKISI – Welcome To The Jungle:

Nkisi is one of the best kept secrets of Belgian’s music scene. Though she’s renowned worldwide in the experimental electronic scene as one of the co-founders of NON WORLDWIDE, together with Chino Amobi and Angel-Ho, in Belgium itself she’s practically unknown. Let’s change that Belgium! As she’s one of the few people who can really change and reinvent the Belgian music scene.

doro – Evasion:

Music wise – and non music wise, watching you ex-mayor Yvan Mayeur – there’s so much going on in Brussels. The hiphop scene on the one hand is better and bigger than ever with artists like Zwangere Guy and Stikstof. Acts like Kassett, Samuelspaniel and doro on the other hand are the new revelations in Brussels’ progressive electronic scene, internationally guided by Mechatok, Dinamarca, Y1640 and so many other interesting new artists.

Each Thursday our Brussels-based fellow is going to overwhelm you with a variety of songs that make your head go nuts. But hey, Thursday is the new Friday! Here are a few of his favorites:

Kate NV – DE 1988:

Kate Shilonosova is in good company: the Russian pop singer is going to tour with our dear Jessy Lanza in North America, recorded a song with Deradoorian (Dirty Projectors) and she got covered by both The New Yorker and Noisey (Vice). Watch the video for her single “Kata” in which she’s surprising and probably annoying many commuters in the elektrishka and listen to this new song “DE 1988”. Grimes, you’ve got company!

Doon Kanda – Axolotl:

Jesse Kanda is probably most known as the visual artist collaborating with Arca and FKA twigs. Under the moniker of Doon Kanda, he’s releasing his debut EP “Heart” on Hyperdub. This song “Axolotl” got some good old Crystal Castles vibes!

She Major – Please Don’t:

“Electrospheric”, that’s how new Belgian pop artist She Major describes her own music. “Oh a new hollow word to describe music”, you might think. But no! With only her debut single “Please Don’t” out, we know exactly what she means: BANKS’ murky electronic vibes and a beautiful poignant voice. A new pop star is born!

Ménage à Trois – Homecoming:

A boy band who met at a gay karaoke bar. That’s the kind of band stories we like the most! “We don’t have an agenda to be a boy band”, they told The Guardian. “Although we are three boys as far as I’ve seen when our clothes are off. We will do dance routines eventually when my confidence builds.” We’re pretty sure Ménage à Trois will become one of our favourite live bands very soon!

Kassett – Charme (ft. RIN):

Belgian electronic wizard Gavin Vanaelst has always been very productive. A couple of month ago, he released a new album together with his friend Jonas De Houwer as Coco Haram. Now he’s back with a brand new one as Kassett.

With “Helena,” the artist – whose real name is Gavin Vanaelst – delivers a post-electronica club anthem loaded with melancholia and demonstrates, at the same time, that he will definitely be one of the producers to keep an eye on in 2017.

Earlier this year, Kassett and Samuelspaniel joined their force and created the collaborative imprint Midlife Music. Nevertheless, Kassett‘s upcoming album “Ocean Memory” will be available on January, 5, 2017, via Aleksandar Vucenovic‘s label AMEN.
