Stockholm-based producer and Studio Barnhus co-founder Kornél Kovács just announced the release of his third album. “I wanted this album to centre around a fictional, dreamlike place,” Kovács stated about Hotel Koko. “I’ve often had friends staying at my flat in Stockholm while I’ve been away touring or recording. At one point I wrote down some basic information and silly “house rules” on a paper, making it look like stationery for a “Hotel Koko”. I found that piece of paper while cleaning my flat a while back, that’s when the idea and the album title fell into place. I think all hotels, from the shabbiest to the most luxurious, have a sense of fantasy and mystique about them, they’re these “liminal spaces” if you will, where anything could happen behind the locked hotel room doors.”

He also shared the hypnotic lead single, “Follow You,” which features delightfully melancholy vocals from Aluna.

Earlier this year, Scandinavian collective Twenty Committee released the electronic track “This Town”, featuring vocals from Chloe Rodgers. The group led by producer Anders Källmark has now enrolled the Studio Barnhus co-founder Kornél Kovács to remix it, giving a wistful touch to the track.

“I had a blast making this remix for Twenty Committee, for which I channeled end-of-summer melancholia, old Matthew Herbert records, and the dadaist sound poetry of Elsa von Freytag-Loringhoven,” explained Kovács. “Big up Chloe Rodgers‘ voice for sounding so good pitched down and shout out to the Luke Vibert breakbeat sample pack for always being there for me in times of need.”
