After releasing two EPs, producer Jaro shared the second part of the collaborations he has been sharing these last few weeks in between different actors of the American hip-hop/R&B scene. After the release of “Sleeping,” a collaboration with bleeklino, Ju, Yomi, Melo Makes Music, BoatHouse and Morimoto, he shared the second alliance called “Sunburns” featuring Kweku Collins, Iris Temple and San Soma.

In this 3 minutes collaboration, all of the actors have managed to put their own signatures in a mix of hip-hop, blues sounds and R&B elements. With everyone putting their creativity in the production as in the final result, it’s really captivating how different forces can manage to work together to release a definite banger.

Kweku Collins – Stupid Rose

[su_dropcap style=”simple”]K[/su_dropcap]weku Collins is a rising artist, a star who is about to shine beyond Evanston, the suburbs of Chicago where he has grown. This 19-year old rapper, producer, and songwriter has always been creating music as he comes from a musical family. On his debut LP “Nat Love”, that was released earlier this month via Closed Sessions, he shows that hip-hop is not only about gangsters and strip-clubs. The album is particularly intimate as he produced all the songs but one himself, in his room. Our favorite one, “Stupid Rose”, is a low-key smooth banger about the souvenir of a bad bitch he used to love; a one-way love affair.

In the track, Collins explains that he, more or less, tried anything in order to get attention from a girl he was loving. At that time, he was probably naive and a sweet innocent kid:

[su_quote]Yeah she was wild, I was different, we was kids then
And this was way before my love for cannabis, woah
And I was waiting on a ride that never did show
And I debated back and forth among my friends
But see these roses turn from red to black again now[/su_quote]

Now, things have changed, but he still remembers these “stupid fucking roses”. The story, that is half-sang, half-rapped, is interesting and shows the vulnerable soul of the artist. It’s sort of endearing and the chorus is catchy and spellbinding.

In short, Kweku Collins’ “Stupid Rose” is a gem.
