Hailing from South London, half-Finnish and half-British bedroom artist otta describes her music as an “ongoing work in progress,” yet it was enough to convince BOKKLE., a label set up by Warp Records producer kwes, to sign her. One must say that otta is a very promising talent as she self-records, self-produces, and plays all instruments on her own. Influenced by neo-jazz, soul, skewed lo-fi and avant-pop, her debut track “small hours” (actually a re-release as we already posted “small hours” last year) features additional production and mixing credits from kwes, who is also known for his work for the likes of Solange, Loyle Carner, The xx and Tirzah.

Speaking about her EP, the artist explained:

[su_quote]I think the songs on this project were very much inspired by classic songwriting, I was listening to a lot of old pop music at the time as well as experimenting with electronic ambient music. This project was a product of finding a way to write structure into this in a way which feels natural whilst also sounding very much like a work in progress. I have always been very inspired by the production of Herbert, Dean Blunt and JPEGMAFIA, which sounds kind of chaotic in the best way whilst also feeling really natural.[/su_quote]

[su_dropcap style=”simple”]O[/su_dropcap]ne of our favorite acts of 2015 is back and is ready to keep his rank for 2016. Irish-born South-London mysterious vocalist Samuel is back with a bewitching reggae-from-space track “Killr”. And good news, this new single announces the release of the EP “LUV CRY” for June via Big Dada.

The 4-track EP is produced by Kwes, from Warp, who already signed the Frank Ocean on ecstasy 2015’s track “These Days”. It will also features additional production by Ozkharp (Hyperdub) and Lockah (Donky Pitch). We think this is a good news! The artist wrote in the press release that “LUV CRY” would be about “confessions/offerings to a loved one…stuff I can’t give/say/do day to day.”

The first single, “Killr”, follows what the artist has always offered us so far: a perfect mix of electronica and R&B. Here, we also hear some futuristic reggae vibes and once again, we are delighted. We really hope we will be able to see him soon live in Brussels!

Samuel‘s voice should be classified as a universal therapy. We hope that “LUV CRY” will give the artist what he really deserves!
