Helena Deland is bewitching us with a sophisticated and nocturnal single called “Claudion”. The Montreal’s singer-songwriter here combines dreamy synth-pop elements and a bass-driven anesthetized trance. It draws something both aerial and swinging, punctuated with shimmering synth drops. On The Fader, where the track was premiered, she explained:

[su_quote]’Claudion’ is generally about being relieved of anxious thought patterns by someone’s unfaltering camaraderie and support, and specifically about this codependency being exemplified by a very intense night out with my oldest friend that would have left me completely helpless if it hadn’t been for their presence and availability.[/su_quote]

You all know Swedish expertise for pop music but don’t forget that this mysterious talent is actually a Scandinavian case. With a boiling scene and edgy artists like Smerz, Sassy 009 or newcomer Otha more recently, Norway shouldn’t be slept on.

Hailing from East Oslo, the new Luminelle Recordings‘ signees of Das Body are going to confirm what we state here. With “Boys”, the first offering off of their upcoming debut EP, the band interweave colourful synth-pop and nostlagic 80s vibes in an uncanny and breezy way. If you like Reggie Lucas‘ productions on Madonna‘s first album, then you’re gonna dig this for sure. Fronted by vocalist Ellie Linden, the Norwegian quartet promise nothing else than some fun for the summer. In her own words: “This is all for fun— and if it isn’t fun, really why do any of it at all?” So what are you waiting for? Grab a boy and shake your coconuts.

At age 17, Hava Vu is already in the limelight after having self-released an album on Soundcloud. Now signed on Fat Possum-affiliated label Luminelle, she is preparing the release of her official debut EP and we already got two amazing singles “Cool,” a featuring with Satchi, and “Crying on the Subway.” Now the Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter follows up with “Shallow.” It’s another solid addition to her collection of sophisticated bedroom pop songs about solitude. About the track, which she describes “as part social commentary, part self analysis,” she detailed to The Fader:

[su_quote]Our superficial perceptions allow us to subconsciously categorize ourselves among or above others. In this song I explore a sort of egotistical alter-ego that I imagine everyone experiences, and reveal the true fear behind it.

At age 17 only, San Francisco-based, Los Angeles-based artist Hana Vu has already collaborated with Willow Smith, received positive comments from Tegan and Sarah and opened for Soccer Mommy. She is at the center of attention and it’s well deserved. The bedroom singer-songwriter and producer -don’t limit her music to this genre- will soon unveil her debut 4-track EP which will be distributed for the first time via a label (Luminelle/Fat Possum). About her music, the autodidact artist stated:

[su_quote]I think my music is a lyrical reflection of how I want to be. I think the low-key sound of my music is contingent on my musical abilities. I didn’t take music lessons or learn theory so what I make is sort of what I can figure out[/su_quote]

Following up to her first “Drawing Room EP” in 2016, Montreal’s indie artist Helena Deland is back today with a new track, “There Are A Thousand”, which announces a series of couplet tracks which will be compiled into the album “Altogether Unaccompanied” Vol. I & II due March 2. The artist, who describes her songwriting as a collection of ‘unsent letters,’ delivers a beautiful and lovely vocal performance on an instant and genuine track that actually reminds us of Sharon Van Etten at times.
