Claire Rousay's new album, a little death, drops on October 31 via Thrill Jockey Records.

It’s an ambient kind of day on HighClouds today. First Farao‘s meditation, then Malibu, and now Claire Rousay joins the wave with some big news. Known for her delicate yet powerful soundscapes that blur the lines between memory, found sound, and instrumentation, Rousay has built a reputation as one of the most prolific and shape-shifting voices in experimental music. Her work spans everything from intimate solo compositions to film scores and collaborations, always grounded in a kind of diaristic intimacy that feels both fragile and immense.

Her next chapter arrives this fall with a little death, out October 31st. The album leans into twilight moods, shaped around field recordings captured at dusk and interwoven with live instruments. Rousay describes it as “a return to what I see as my core solo practice, a re-dedication to those methods of working which I’ve found most align with what I envision my music or sound to be.” Designed as part of a trilogy alongside a heavenly touch and a softer focus, the record promises a rich interplay between tactile samples and chamber-like arrangements, with contributions from longtime collaborators M. Sage, more eaze, Gretchen Korsmo, Andrew Weathers, and Alex Cunningham.

Alongside the announcement, Claire Rousay has shared the first glimpse: “just (feat. M. sage).” The track drifts in metallic textures and percussive sparks that illuminate droning clarinets and piano figures, a sonic embodiment of the album’s dusky atmosphere. It’s both shadowy and glowing, hinting at what’s to come on a little death, and setting the stage for her extensive North American tour later this year, including special release shows in Los Angeles and New York.
