Lindsay French has always made electronic pop with a literate attention to detail. As the co-founder of 100% Electronica with partner George Clanton, she originally became known for her trailblazing work as Negative Gemini. Honing her sound with the static edge of Grimes, the trippy textures of Crystal Castles, and the vibey pulse of lo-fi hip-hop beats to study to, French made a name for herself with previous projects, especially 2018’s glorious Bad Boy EP.

Now shortening her name to Neggy Gemmy, French establishes a new direction for herself with latest single “California,” the first track off her upcoming third project. While it certainly contains the trademarks we’ve come to know her for, this new song dazzles with its ability to balance its hazy, “cruise-centric” vibe with its textural and melodic nuance.

The synths used here are grandiose, providing the perfect counterpoint to the uber-compressed kick drum and trap-spiced sub-bass that start the song. Neggy Gemmy’s voice is bratty, hanging on to every syllable with vinegar on her lips. Yet this attitude doesn’t taint the track; rather, it makes the song’s themes of uncertainty and starting over all the more prevalent.

But what’s most impressive about the song, as always, is its intricacy. Transitioning in the back-half to a drumline of snares and hi-hats, the artist adds reverb-soaked sirens and West Coast melodies into the ether, washing out the atmosphere into something that while seemingly euphoric, keeps the listener on edge until the track’s abrupt end. As an introduction to her latest self, “California” is a triumph.

Los Angeles’s Lindsey French aka Negative Gemini aka Neggy Gemmy follows up on her remix of Millionyoung‘s “Free” with two throbbing new instrumentals, that are released under the project Utopia. If you follow the artist, you probably already heard “Clown Cleaner” and “House of Trix” in her Virtual Utopia VR performances, as she was working on on them during the stream. Listen below.

Lindsey French, aka Negative Gemini, has finally unveiled the video of “Different Color Hair,” her contribution to the famous Adult Swim‘s Singles Club. Directed by Cory Nixon, the cinematographic visuals bring us in the middle of a meditative ritual and a striptease club, amongst others. It’s a pure dose of weirdness and a middle finger to normality that definitely fits the hazy vibes of the song. Watch below.

This lo-fi and nocturnal new offering is part of the 2019 edition of Adult Swim’s Singles Club. Listen below.

American singer-songwriter and producer Lindsey French, also known as Negative Gemini, has just unveiled a Cory Nixon-directed short movie for “You Weren’t There Anymore”. The song was the first single and one of the highlights of her 2018’s Bad Baby EP, released on the label she co-founded with George Clanton. The cheerleader-themed visuals were premiered via David Dean Burkhart‘s youtube channel.

Negative Gemini has also announced a second pressing of the EP (pre-order) as well as a restocking of her 2016’s debut album Body Work (pre-order).

The video was made with her collaborator George Clanton with who she runs the exciting label 100% Electronica. The video, which is inspired by VHS and vintage aesthetics, fits perfectly the trippy track. Golin – Momoko:

This is not a new new song, but the world just needs to know about this artist. Finally I saw Golin live and at one moment I got goosebumps (I know classic but it is how it is) and just realized how good it was. Golin is a American-Japanese singer based in Brussels, working closely together with Midlife (Kassett and Samuelspaniel). She’ll be one of the new (Belgian) voices of 2018!

Bad Gyal (prod. Dj Florentino) – Blink:

Bad Gyal’s “Jacaranda” was such a banger last year. This “Blink” is not as good, but she still playing at a very high level. It’s the first single from her second mixtape, due February 23. Quite sure it’s going to be a good one!

Let’s Eat Grandma – Hot Pink:

I’m only now – when I’m writing this last little piece – realising these three songs I’m highlighting have something in common. It’s the energy I presume? Anyway, this “Hot Pink” smashes them all, thanks to the production skills from SOPHIE. Who else could do this?

Negative Gemini is the moniker of New York City-based musician Lindsey French. Following up to her 2016’s album “Body Work”, the artist has shared a new single “You Weren’t There Anymore” which takes some distance from her usual electronic soundscapes. Indeed, this new single sounds more like lo-fi and dream-pop. She gave some details about this new sound to Earmilk‘s writer Adam Keilbach:
