Tundra – My Love:

Driving through vibrant cities or beautiful landscapes is one of my favourite things in the world to do, especially when the accompanied soundtrack is kind of hypnotical. Try playing M83’s music while driving through a tunnel for example. Wouldn’t it be the best if a band/artist’s pseudonym was just “Tunnel” or “Savanna” or … Ok, no it’d be boring but with Tundra’s music I can see myself driving through a tundra landscape endlessly.

NKISI – Welcome To The Jungle:

Nkisi is one of the best kept secrets of Belgian’s music scene. Though she’s renowned worldwide in the experimental electronic scene as one of the co-founders of NON WORLDWIDE, together with Chino Amobi and Angel-Ho, in Belgium itself she’s practically unknown. Let’s change that Belgium! As she’s one of the few people who can really change and reinvent the Belgian music scene.

doro – Evasion:

Music wise – and non music wise, watching you ex-mayor Yvan Mayeur – there’s so much going on in Brussels. The hiphop scene on the one hand is better and bigger than ever with artists like Zwangere Guy and Stikstof. Acts like Kassett, Samuelspaniel and doro on the other hand are the new revelations in Brussels’ progressive electronic scene, internationally guided by Mechatok, Dinamarca, Y1640 and so many other interesting new artists.

Each Thursday our Brussels-based fellow overwhelms you with a variety of songs that make your head go nuts. As we had a few renovations in our website, we are a bit late this week but hey, better later than never! Here are a few of Free’s favorites tracks:

Solo Dan – So Hey:

A few years ago I was extremely active on social media and platform for music professionals Human Human. You can add bands/artists to your “discoveries” when you’re the first of the community and the band/artist is still very small. So four years ago I discovered duo GRRL PAL and their awesome pop songs like “NGHT“, “Dare” and “Amazon“. Dan from GRRL PAL is going solo now under the moniker Solo Dan (ha!) and released his first single “So Hey”!

That Poppy – I’m Poppy:

I don’t really like the music of That Poppy except for her bubblegum PC Music-ish poppy “I’m Poppy”. Best popper of this week!

Eyedress – High Street Drive By (feat. Jess Conelly & Ankhten Brown):

I’ve been a long time fan of the Filipino producer Eyedress. His previous music was more upbeat and happy in a way, but by deleting all that music from his Soundcloud/Spotify and replacing them by darker new songs, apparently he wants to break with the past. This one is good though! And reminds me of 18+.

Peaking Lights – Everytime I See The Light:

On June 16, Peaking Lights is releasing a new album “The Fifth State Of Consciousness”. This lo-fi 80’s pop song is just what I need to believe indie pop is what I love the most in the world. It’s simple, but endlessly lovely to listen to.

Justin Walter – It’s Not What You Think:

Are there any Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith fans or lovers of the more soundscape sound by Rival Consoles or Clark? This is your thingy!

Lydia Ainsworth – What Is It?:

It feels like I’ve been waiting to hear new music from Lydia Ainsworth for ages! She had been quiet since her stunning debut “Right From Real”. (Only) Three years later, Ainsworth is back with her gothic-ish drama-theatrical pop that blows you away from the first to the last second. Please check her live when you can!

Jay Som – Baybee:

Melina Duterte aka Jay Som is the cutest (and the craziest), check this video. The Polyvinyl-signee sounds like the perfect match between Frankie Cosmos and Mitski. The guitar riddle in “Baybee” on a Monday morning is just the best. And on Tuesday too. Oh and all the other days.

Elohim – Skinny Legs:

When you miss the trash pop of Crystal Castles, you should check out Elohim! It’s more polished and Georgia-like but the dirty synths slapping you in the face could be an Ethan Kath without dopamine.

Stuff. – Galapagos:

Lander Gyselinck is one of the best Belgian musicians of recent years. With his avant-garde jazzband he’s reinventing himself and the band time after time. “Galapagos” starts with a sloppy synths allowing a funky bass to make Stuff. One of the freshest contemporary jazz music.

Half Waif – Frost Burn:

Half Waif is part of Pinegrove, which I very honestly cannot listen to. But this project of Nandi Rose Plunkett on the other hand is just a sublime mix of indie pop and dark synthy vibes.

Wwwater – Wwwater:

It was already said on Highclouds but it is worth repeating. Belgium’s newest r&b pop product is very high quality! I’ve been waiting for Charlotte Adigéry’s aka Wwwater’s debut single for ages, but it’s totally worth the waiting!

Kevin Morby – Come To Me Now:

Though I’ve never been into country, americana or folk that much, Kevin Morby’s always been able to fascinate me. His latest album “Singing Saw” released last year was just a beauty, as is this new single “Come To Me Now”.

This week, let’s start Aurora Borealis with “A Single Hope” which is taken from “Centres”, the new LP from Vancouver-based vocalist and ambient composer Ian William Craig.

Then, 21-year-old producer Celadon City offers you the beautiful synth-organic “Sandbox” as a free download. The hypnosis of Tourist getting remixed by Lil Silva can then happen on the spatial odyssey “Run”.

If you like Röyksopp or Sigur Rós, you will be delighted by Los Angeles’ Deep Dark Blue. Their track “Atoms” is an enchanting slowburn, between post-rock and electronica. You can read more about it there!

The Belgian label Apollo, which was founded in 1992 as the Ambient division of iconic R&S Records, recently shared the remix of Synkro’s “Your Heart” by Sven Weisemann. It’s 13 minutes of pure magic!

>SQRD proposes the emotional “Gold”, which is the title track from his upcoming EP, out 22 July on Fresh Milk. The work and effects on the vocals are simply stunning and all the details that the artist placed throughout the track are amazing!

The bewitchment keeps on working with Mickey Pearce‘s in-a-trance “Polyester”. And when the fresh-faced duo from Close Counters remixes Lithuanian artists Deep Shoq and Kotryna, the result is a weird and fascinating future bass soulful UFO!

Nkisi enables us to speed up with a futuristic chaos of drums and bleeps that compose the remix of Mory Kanté‘s classics “Yeke Yeke”. Emma is cool, even if she totally does random stuff on her computer track “acid reflex.” Be ready to tremble with the massive basses! Finally, we close this selection with DBM, a duo that features Deadboy and Murlo. Their debut “Halo” is an alternative dance banger headed by crazy basses and screaming synths! Don’t be surprised to see extra-terrestrials on the dancefloor!
