Although it’s been over a year since gisela dropped, NOIA has just released a new video for “reveal yourself,” one of the album’s standout tracks. She describes it on Instagram as a song about “the universe expanding when you’re hiding behind the secret walls of domestic love like one of these glowing fish hiding in the bottom of the ocean. Definitely a pandemic child song.” Watch the Evan Deng-directed clip below.

A few weeks ago, Gisela Fulla-Silvestre, better known as NOIA, announced the release of her sophomore EP with the intricate and atmospheric “Ausencias.” As the project is out tomorrow, the Brooklyn-based Spanish artist has now unveiled a new single, “Ciudad del Humo,” which revives the ethereal and dance-y vibes of some of her previous singles. In this kinetic and expansive track, she sings “I should have known better, you’ve made a mistake.”

According to NOIA, the EP is a collage of emotion. In her own words:

[su_quote]Waiting on someone to fill my own absences, heartbreak somehow for what didn’t happen but could have happened, feeling trapped in the city of New York.[/su_quote]

Barcelone-raised artist Gisela Fulla-Silvestre, better known as NOIA, amazed us back in 2016 with the release of her debut EP, Habits, and with her singles “Nostalgia Del Futuro” and “Itaca Tropical”. After a silence of three years, she is back with a new single, “Ausencias” (‘Absences’ in English), that introduces her sophomore EP.

If you are familiar with NOIA‘s music, you will fall in love again with her crystalline, mystical synth-pop. Cold at heart, the bilingual and elusive track showcases some glimpse of warmth thanks to its soothing brass. Definitely more experimental than some of her previous singles, “Ausencias” keeps all of its secrets hidden in its atmospheric and unpredictable atmosphere. Listen below.

September… The leaves are escaping from the trees, the sun becomes lazy and sleeps more and more. This is probably why we enjoy the Indian summer so much, because these warm days are the last ones. NOIA, a Spanish artist who is now based in Brooklyn and whose real name is Gisela Fulla-Silvestre, just released the soundtrack of these last moments: “Nostalgia Del Futuro.”

Starting with cracking sounds and reverb, the track in itself is, like its title, a beautiful oxymoron. The marimba, an instrument from Central America which is made of wood, quickly makes an appearance and brings us an ounce of peacefulness that is at times reminiscent of an ASMR experience. These traditional sounds are quickly mixed with a technoid and Balearic beat but the bouncy cadence never assaults the overall sweetness. It’s a trip to the natural and wild parts of Ibiza, not to its clubs. The whole track navigates between organic and electronic sounds and depicts a beautiful nostalgic trip.

The chorus is particularly catchy, even hypnotic. It is repeated like a melancholic prophecy. NOIA’s voice is bewitching: sweet like a brain massage but enough assured to make us believe that what she predicts for our future will come true. Like a modern saudade-inspired anthem, the artist brings the spleen to another level: what will remain from our ideas and our existence?

NOIA‘s “Nostalgia del Futuro” is a contemplative piece of electronic pop written about our tendency to see the future as a perfect landing point.

NOIA was born and raised in Barcelona by her parents, who were intellectuals and activists during Franco’s dictatorship. The artist completed a degree in film scoring & sound design at Berklee and is now based in New York. She was introduced to Cascine last spring by the director Allie Avital and “Nostalgia Del Futuro” is the first result of this collaboration.

In the press release, the artist explains:
[su_quote]‘Nostalgia Del Futuro’ is about the recurring and destructive feeling so many of us have of idealizing the future as a perfect place that we’re constantly striving for, but never actually reaching. It’s the idea that peace exists in a shiny version of ourselves: when I’ll achieve that, I’ll feel complete, when I lose X pounds, my self-esteem will be on fire.[/su_quote]

The track was premiered on Gorilla Vs Bear and will be featured on the “Habits EP.”

About her EP, NOIA says:
[su_quote]“ It is a reflection of my many idiosyncrasies – deep solitude, rigid eating schedules like a retired old man, nostalgia for an imagined future, desired memories of a better past, bread with olive oil & avocado, masturbation, etc.”[/su_quote]
