Following up to her EPs “Small Crimes” in 2016 and “Plant Feed” earlier this year, the 22-year-old singer, songwriter, and guitarist recently shared a new single, “Baby Luv”. As often with the artist, the track, which is mainly based on a single guitar line (with a sort of climax at the end with some drums and synthesizers), is simple, raw and irresistible. Some sentences keep on being repeated the song – “Do you like pain?”, “Call Me Sometime”, and “Again” – creating a feeling of obsession while contributing to the catchiness of the track.

Speaking to The FADER about the video for ‘Baby Luv’, Nilüfer Yanya said:

[su_quote]’Baby Luv’ was written around this time last year. The title came from an image of a pram. We were going for a Martin Parr-esque style so we shot the video in Penzance, Cornwall, it was probably the most immersed I’ve been in a shooting a video because we were on location for 3 or 4 days. I look very cold in a lot of it because I was. At one point we nearly lost all our equipment to the sea.[/su_quote]

As we mentioned it in the past, but it’s never enough to repeat it, Nilüfer Yanya also runs the charitable organisation Artists In Transit which assists displaced people entering Europe through arts. She’s helped on this project by her sister Molly Daniel who also co-directs all of Nilüfer’s DIY videos with her boyfriend Patrick Chamberlain.

This song seems to emphasize how one can find themselves performing small crimes and getting lost in them such as lying and getting caught out. However furthermore, it signifies that despite these “small crimes” there are certain things that one will still not be willing to do.
