“Do U Wanna” is taken from Porches‘ upcoming fourth album, Ricky Music, due out March 13 on Domino.

Last year, Aaron Maine, aka Porches, made his return with his Dev Hynes-assisted track “rangerover.” The New York-based singer-songwriter and producer has now announced a full album, Ricky Music, which will feature the previously released single as bonus track as well as his brand new song, “Do U Wanna.” Featuring contributions for the likes of Zsela and Jacob Portrait, the album was written and recorded between Dec 2017 and the spring of 2019.

About Ricky Music, Maine detailed:

[su_quote]This record is an account of the beauty, confusion, anger, joy and sadness I experienced during that time. I think I was as lost as I was madly in love. In these songs I hear myself sometimes desperate for clarity, and other times, having enough perspective to laugh at myself in some of my darkest moments.[/su_quote]

The lead single, “Do U Wanna,” is a self-reflection driven by throbbing cowbells. “It a song about looking at yourself and realizing the disparity between how you’d like to act and how you actually act,” he explained. “The fun you vs. the isolated you. I feel like with the refrain I’m almost taunting myself to get up and do something.” In the visuals, which were directed by Nick Harwood, Maine ends up dancing a slow with his shrink. Watch and pre-order the album via Bandcamp below.

Porches‘ new single, “rangeover”, is out now on Domino.

New York-based singer-songwriter Aaron Maine, better known as Porches, has returned with “rangeover”, the first track since the release of his third album The House last year. For this new single, the artist has linked up with Dev Hynes, who sings backup here. It also comes with a long statement about his love affair with music and his touring experiences that you read below.

[su_youtube_advanced url=”https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mIH4iNDuk1I”]

I’ve been making music as Porches since 2009. Porches can be a country song, a dance song, a punk song, a pop song or anything in between. It’s an exploration of any sound or idea that I find interesting in that moment, the idea being that these seemingly isolated ideas will become unified in the context of the Porches catalogue. Porches is my love affair with music.

Sometimes you can string words together that don’t make sense literally, but they capture whatever the sentiment is so perfectly that it doesn’t matter. You know when it feels right, and you know when it feels wrong. I try and keep what I make close to home. Sometimes that home is fantasy, sometimes it’s autobiographical, but it’s always a way to interpret my experiences in a way that is intimate to me.

Like any other type of diary, when you open up an old one you can feel all sorts of things: proud, ashamed, excited, mortified, humbled, out of your mind, smart, idiotic. I feel all of these things about Porches.

For as many turns the music has made, I’ve decided to stick to the Porches moniker, to come to terms with and confront my evolution as an artist as well as a person. As clunky as that may be, it comes back to wanting to accept and explore who I am, what I feel, and how I communicate that. I want to swim to the bottom of myself and find the weirdest most special and pure shit that I can offer.

I recently did some Porches shows as a solo act, and while it won’t be the only way I perform live in the future, there is something about going up on stage alone with a laptop or a keyboard that feels more confronting and open to me than showing up with a 5-piece band. I feel nervous and on my toes like I haven’t in a long time, and when that nervous energy works for me, it can really transform the performance into something exciting. It’s just you and the audience, it’s very intimate, it’s very visceral, it’s very revealing. I feel you have a short time on this planet, and I’m interested in connecting with people, and exploring the different ways you can do that.

Music keeps me alive and I hope that by continuing to make and release it, I can make some people laugh, cry, fall in love, lose their shit, smile, run around, and most importantly help them to feel alive for a brief moment.

For its 25th edition, Botanique‘s Les Nuits festival will take place in Brussels from April 25 until May 13. Each

For its 25th edition, Botanique‘s Les Nuits festival will take place in Brussels from April 25 until May 13.

Each spring, Brussels’ cultural institution Le Botanique opens the festival season with their inescapable Les Nuits Bota. This year again and before everyone, they bring exciting, emerging and established artists to Belgium, in human-sized venues. Even if some shows are already sold-out, there is still a lot of jewels to discover and we made a small selection to help you make your program.

[su_youtube_advanced url=”https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gmc_10PsNd8″]

First of all, let’s focus on the boiling Belgian line-up and if you’re familiar with HighClouds, all these names should sound familiar. The amazing Blackwave. and YellowStraps will make you move with their chill and groovy vibes. If you prefer cinematic and emotional electronic music, then Haring and Rari are here for you. We take the bet that the two girls of Juicy will energise the crowd with their retro-futuristic R&B and hip-hop music. Ulysse, Pale Grey and Tessa Dixson are certainly the most exciting acts on the Belgian indie pop scene at the moment.

Amongst the international acts that we don’t need to introduce, we’d like to mention the -already sold-out- concert of Charlotte Gainsbourg whose last album “Rest” was particularly good. Impossible to miss the noise-pop os U.S. Girls, the synth-pop odyssey of Porches, the style of Eddy de Pretto and the groove of Jungle.

French acts Malik Djoudi, Royaume, Polo & Pan, Bagarre and L’Impératrice should undoubtedly make memorable sparks. Amen Dunes just released one of the best albums of 2018 so far and he’ll be playing it in Brussels. South African queer artist Nakhane will bewitch you with the songs of his new album “You Will Not Die”. Be ready to dance with pop princess Mabel and to swag with Little Simz. Finally, new alternative sensation Yellow Days will also join the party.

Check the 2018’s full line-up of Les Nuits on their website and via their Spotify playlist below.

[su_dropcap style=”simple”]I[/su_dropcap]t’s already been some weeks that Porches are charming our ears with their excellent track “Hour”. The song is taken from the upcoming LP “Pool”, which will be released on February 5, via Domino Records. And in order to make you wait, Aaron Maine and his band just released a new video for “Be Apart”, another single off the album.

The Daniel Brereton-directed video was filmed outside London during a recent UK/EU tour and premiered via The Fader. The action takes place in a mansion, behind closed doors, and, according to Maine, the house represents “both what you might long to be a part of and also the sentiment of longing to be elsewhere, a part of what is outside.”

[su_youtube_advanced url=”https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IhG83uHDMkI”]

Aaron Maine‘s new project features her girlfriend Frankie Cosmos, an artist that we also follow, and who is a long-time musical collaborator of the artist.
