Cousin Kula, the BadBadNotGood co-signed quintet based in the sun-drenched hills on the outskirts of Bristol, will release their debut album next month. Alongside the announcement, they’ve also shared a gentle new single, “Now That You’re Gone,” which was crafted during isolation. “This one started life deep into lockdown,” explains keys player Will Wells. “I would set keyboards up outside Elliot’s bedroom window [the band members live together] so we could still play together without me coming in the house. I guess the tune’s simplicity is, in some way, a reflection of the slower pace of life we’d gotten used to.”

A smoothly psychedelic slow burner, “Now That You’re Gone” acts as a meditation on the time that passes. Even if there’s “something that just don’t feel right,” they describe this half-paced life with a languid approach, exploring the liminal space between comfort and exhaustion. This warmth is also present in the accompanying “completely turmeric” visuals.
