After unveiling our Best Albums of the Year a few days ago, we’re now happy to share the individual tracks that stayed with us, soundtracked our days, and quietly refused to let go over the last 12 months. As always, this list is a living thing: the ranking could change every day, and a few last-minute gems released in December made their way in at the very end, because great songs don’t care about deadlines.

True to the HighClouds spirit, we’ve once again tried to shine a light on overlooked releases and new or under-the-radar artists alongside some more familiar names. And yes… for the second year the same artist is topping our Best Songs list. At this point, it’s safe to say we’re obsessed. All of the tracks featured here (and many others) are also gathered in our Spotify playlist, that you can find below.

Rochelle Jordan unleashes new banger “GOT EM”

Rochelle Jordan‘s new track, “GOT EM,” is out via Royal Mountain Records and TOKiMONSTA’s Young Art Records.

Like many of us, Toronto-based, London-born R&B artist Rochelle Jordan starts the new year with good resolutions. Her very own mantra, “GOT EM”, is an R&B banger which draws inspiration from her UK roots, thanks to producers KLSH and Machinedrum.

“‘GOT EM’ is my song of Affirmation,” says Jordan. “I wrote it in 2017, a time where I had an intense epiphany about life. I started to become much more spiritually aware than I have ever been before. All the repetition in this song is my way of being able to meditate on these words of encouragement and confidence, affirm and push through. Talking my shit in the first verse, to speaking and encouraging whoever is listening in the second, I just wanted this song to seep into the veins of whoever needs to be lifted.”

Rochelle Jordan shares “How U Want It” via IAMSIAM, Machinedrum’s new label

After sharing his album “Human Energy” last year, Machinedrum is ready for new things in 2017. He launched his brand new label IAMSIAM as the curator and producer and the best introduction to the label’s direction is “How U Want It”, by his long-time collaborator Rochelle Jordan.

After collaborating with the forward-thinking producer in his track “Tell U”, taken from his last album, the young Los Angeles-based artist didn’t hesitate on working with him as both seem to have the same vision about music. With R&B-electronic infused production and an unique exquisite vocals, the duo is just fire together. About the label and collaborations, Machinedrum stated:

This is a huge milestone for me. I’ve wanted to start my own label ever since I learned what one was back when I was a kid. IAMSIAM feels more like a family than a label to me. All the music we are releasing is created by close friends of mine which makes it a super special and a personal thing for me. It’s also an opportunity for me to showcase the myriad of collaborations I’m involved in as most of the releases are produced by me.
