These credentials are most interesting, and after listening to Sophia Somajo’s music, I can say that the pop music she creates is far from “so-so”.

“Sapphire” was released last month as part of “The Blue Chapter” and it’s a cool plucky pop single embodying all the elements that make alternative pop music so great. Immediately ear-catching, “Sapphire” is a song that sounds yearning in the most sentimental yet industrial-driven way. Once the chorus comes in, the listener is introduced to echoey drums that further amplify the emotive powers of that Somajo’s vocals.

This remix of Sophia Somajo’s “Sapphire” by the Copenhagen/LA-based Ronni Vindahl brings out the longing nature of the original track while incorporating a more complex pallet of sounds.

Vindahl, best known for his work with fellow Dane and internationally recognized pop artist MØ, reinvents “Sapphire” by giving it a more upbeat sound molded by snaps, flute solos, and incorporating low, razor-like synths to act as a sharp contrast to Somajo’s clear-sounding pop vocals. While Vindahl’s remix does not stray far, stylistically, from the tone of the original Sapphire, his remix does lend listeners an extra lens to see the message of the song through.
