Kate NV has just shared a “goofy and funny” video, in her own words, for the playful track “Ça Commence Par,” a highlight taken from her last album Room For The Moon. Directed by Jennifer Juniper Stratford, the visuals mark the end of the Room For The Moon era (which also features a collection of remixes and an instrumental album). Moscow-based multi-talented avant-pop artist Kate Shilonosova aka Kate NV has just unveiled a video for “Lu Na”, a track taken from her last album Room for the Moon. Drawing from “unlived memories of 70s and 80s Russian and Japanese pop music and film,” the project also comes with vintage and surreal conceptual videos inspired by the shows she was watching as a child. In these new Gina Onegina-directed visuals, she introduces four dancers voguing in pinky cats outfits.

“‘Lu Na’ was originally planned as a dance clip consisting mostly of one repetitive loop—simple pattern where cats walk in a square one by one,” she stated. “This pattern was hugely inspired and based on [Samuel] Beckett’s piece Quad which I love. Originally I just wanted the sun to appear slowly behind those cats while they walk. All of the dancers were wonderful, they brought so much life to the characters of those cats!”

After “Sayonara” and “Marafon 15“, Moscow-based avant-pop artist Kate Shilonosova, aka Kate NV, has just unveiled, “Plans”, the third single lifted from her upcoming album Room for the Moon. Building upon the synth pop palette displayed on “Sayonara,” the track features a sax solo that was made exclusively with samples from the Found Sound Nation’s “Broken Orchestra” sample pack. “Plans” also comes with a video, that she co-directed with Pavel Kling, in which she plays the presenter of a surreal and nostalgic news broadcast. The whole album was actually inspired by unlived memories of 70s and 80s Russian culture, as already seen with the amazing video for “Marafon 15“. Watch below and pre-order the album via Bandcamp.

After the amazing “Sayonara” (already featured in our Best Tracks of 2020), Moscow avant-pop artist Kate NV has just unveiled another track from her upcoming album Room for the Moon. Titled “Marafon 15,” the dreamy art-pop cut comes with a Gina Onegina-directed video in which she channels the retro aesthetic of Soviet television. About the inspiration behind this surreal TV show, she explained:

[su_quote]When I came up with the fairytale prince character for this video my idea was to make a gnome-inspired hat to go with the outfit but when we came to the milliner they refused to make it the way we wanted, saying: ‘a gnome is a gnome but this is still fashion, girls’. That’s how we got this fancy red hat instead of the ordinary one. This phrase became very popular amongst the crew during the shooting days and is central to the video.[/su_quote]

“I finished this record during the loneliest period of my life,” Kate explains. The Kazan’s avant-pop artist is once again joined by long-time music collaborators Jenya Gorbunov on bass guitar, Vladimir Luchanskiy on saxophone, and Quinn Oulton on both instruments.

Coming with this announcement, she has has also unveiled the closing track of the album “Sayonara,” which means “goodbye” and “farewell” in Japanese. It also comes with a self-directed, black and white video. Watch and pre-order the album via Bandcamp below.
