Twenty-year-old singer-songwriter Samia recently shared a double A-side single as well as a video for the first track “Lasting Friend“. The New Yorker artist has now unveiled the visuals for the second track “Paris” that she co-directed with Zak Adams. Sounding like a tender lo-fi lullaby, “Paris” is actually a regretful song about a broken relationship. The touching video also plays with this feeling of nostalgia as it features personal video footages of the artist. Watch below.

Following up on “Milk“, 22-year-old New York native Samia has shared two new tracks, “Paris” and “Lasting Friend”, as well as a video for the latter. As often with the singer-songwriter, “Lasting Friend” is a cocktail of sharp-witted lyricism, grit and feminism. The track was actually inspired by her personal experience with boys at school. In her own words:

[su_quote]I have this party anecdote about how the boys in middle school used to line up in the gym and touch my boobs. It’s as funny as it is difficult for me to grapple with, because it’s how I learned to measure my worth. I made a lot of friends that way and it’s hard to unlearn that routine; we were all trying to make sense of the roles we were assigned.[/su_quote]

The accompanying Ruby Rose-directed visuals recreate this ‘playful’ middle school period. Simultaneously, you can also see the artist digging a hole in the sand, getting inside of it and eventually hitting a version of herself with a shovel. And she does all of that while obsessively singing “I’m not ashamed of my past” backed by Brooklyn band Active Bird Community. Watch Samia‘s new video below.

Following up on “21”, New York native Samia is back with a video for her new track “Milk”. Turning personal details from daily life into striking songs, the artist’s sensitive songwriting is reminescent of Julien Baker and Tobias Jesso Jr. In her latest offering, which was produced by Jesse Harris, she manages to interweave the loss of a loved one and eating disorder with a genuine emotion and a poetic modesty.

About “Milk” and the Tess Lafia-directed video that goes with it, Samia explained:

[su_quote]I was dealing with an eating disorder while my grandmother/family’s matriarch was dying. I was so mad at myself; it felt hypocritical to be encouraging someone else to fight for her life while i was willfully taking years off of my own. A lot of people have eating disorders and everybody’s grandparents die so i didn’t feel entitled to the deep sadness i felt. I do now! In the video, I’m really attached to these balloons which sort of represent the part of my identity that was emaciated and dealing with loss. The simplicity of the video reflects my grief; there was something comfortably uncomplicated about being totally sad.[/su_quote]
