BEA1991 has unveiled a Sega Bodega-produced two-parter this Wednesday. “Tranquility / Free Young Man” marks her first release since her 2019’s Lost Demo EP and excellent debut album Brand New Adult.

This new offering starts with BEA1991‘s harrowed yet determined voice alongside a synth palette shrouded in melancholic mystery, a combination that excellently evokes the complex, uncertain aura carried by the song’s subject who’s recently wrested themselves from a relationship. Contemplative hums and disembodied keys interject throughout the steady yet pulsating main synth line before tension is briefly relieved as the song transitions to its second, lengthier movement. A similarly possessed keyboard propels the listener forward, now supported by sparse drum machine whose rimshots contrarily add further to the sonic haze. The chorus breaks and tenderly blooms into a very danceable yet restrained outburst smattered with more varied drum programming and an anchoring bassline that carries the song through to its outro. The suppressed wails accompanying the artist’s continued steady tone here may well be the most expressive vocal element of the two-parter – lest one forget that no amount of individualist determination can allow full detachment from one’s emotions while plotting a course into the lone unknown.

London artist Shygirl has just shared a new track, “FREAK”. Produced by NUXXE label co-founder Sega Bodega, the unbridled, biting single acts as a perfect follow up to “BB” – and an ideal future addition for our playlist EDGY POPPERS. Navigating through a world without any sexual shame or hesitation, the track also comes with a self-directed 3D video, courtesy of modeller and designer Sy Blake and animator Maurice Andresen. According to a recent Instagram post, Sega Bodega is about to finish recording his forthcoming debut album. As he knows that we’ve been impatiently waiting for new music, he has also unveiled the first single off the project, “U Suck”, which also marks his first release of 2019. If the producer did not share any tracks since his 2018’s self*care EP, it’s because he was busy collaborating for the likes of Col3trane, Cosima, oklou, and Shygirl, as well as touring across Europe.

An emo breakup track where he literally holds his heart in his hands, “U Suck” encapsulates the thin limit between hate and love by playing with the different meanings of the verb “fuck”. The perfect soundtrack to accompany this very specific moment, when a relationship is about to die but when the sexual desire remains ardent. Boasting on bedroom pop arrangements, the single seems also to announce a sound shift for the London-based producer who has built a part of his reputation in the underground clubs. Watch the Bryan M. Following up on his self*care EP released late 2018, Ireland-born London-based producer Sega Bodega has shared another single where he is experimenting once again with his own voice. Co-written by BEA1991 and Oklou, his new offering “mimi” is a highly distorted love song loaded with doubt and vulnerability. It comes with a foggy lyric video made by Morgan Hislop. An impressive casting of left-field innovators.

This new release comes ahead Sega Bodega‘s gig at London’s Hoxton Hall on February 7 for a conceptual show designed in collaboration with Shaun Murphy. Last tickets over there.

Although he already had a busy year producing for the likes of Quay Dash and Brooke Candy and working on the development of his label NUXXE, Sega Bodega has just announced the release of a new multidisciplinary EP. We can already hear the first single “kisses 2 my phone”. For the first time, the producer is using his own vocals in what sounds like an edgy and challenging emo pop R&B track. Following up on her previously shared single “O“, South London vocalist SHYGIRL is back today with “Gush”, a new experimental club track with NUXXE‘s Sega Bodega and STAYCORE’s Dinamarca on production duty. The track, which is mainly based on her feelings and mood, is a scorching and gritty piece of electronic and industrial pop which should set the pace in the clubs. Over an email to The Fader, the artist stated:
