[su_dropcap style=”simple”]C[/su_dropcap]heck on the latest experience of Singaporean artist Yllis! “Parade” is an electro-pop kaleidoscope of a song and is as varied as it is random. It is a psychological and trippy experience about self-representation in a digital world, and that is even before we have come to the accompanying music video. The whole experience was conceived in partnership with Czech-Dutch experimental design studio The Rodina.

The track alone is very experimental and maybe falls into the psycho-electronic pop category with a lot of variety of instruments and a big use of synthesizers. “Parade”, whose influence are going from FKA Twigs to Oneohtrix Point Never by including Holly Herndon, is not for the light-hearted or anyone who panics easily.

[soundcloud url=”https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/260740065″ params=”color=ff5500&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false” width=”100%” height=”166″ iframe=”true” /]

The accompanying The Rodina-directed video is equally trippy and fills you with a sense of unease and queasiness. As an artistic project, it is mind bending and intriguing and an interesting insight into the artist’s mind at the time of production. “Parade” is a fascinating project and one that poses many questions, it is though probably more suitable in a dark tent at a seedy festival then coming through my headphones over breakfast at 7.00am. But don’t ask me to think too much while I’m at a festival, though…

[su_youtube url=”https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wo6I3J4dadA&feature=youtu.be”]

As Yllis explains it in the press release, “Parade” is an exploration and a multimedia experimentation about self-representation and narcissism in today’s digital world.

It actually questions the way people are trying to get a self-constructed “perfected” identity in a post-representational digital reality world. We recommend you to check on the whole immersive experience on the attached website.

“Parade”, is the follow-up track to “wiik”, and will be on Yllis’s debut 4-track EP “Island-01” which is set for release in June. Stay tuned on HighClouds to hear more news about his project, or follow him on Soundcloud and Facebook!
