We always love introducing brand new talent on the $We always love introducing brand new talent on the blog, especially when the music feels dreamy, ethereal and a little otherworldly. Swedish newcomer @murex____ fits that mood beautifully. One of Young’s latest signings, she brings her classical training into forward thinking productions where glitchy electronics, intricate orchestration and airy avant pop gently blur together. There are traces of Eartheater in the way her voice floats through these constantly shifting compositions, while the trilling polyphonic textures may recall Oklou. What makes her sound feel truly singular, though, is its distinctly Scandinavian atmosphere, shaped by Nordic folklore and the Swedish landscape. Her debut album, Inventio, arrives September 25 via Young. Named after Bach’s Inventions, which she played on the piano growing up, the record was created over three years and explores body dysmorphia, control and a fractured sense of self, gradually moving towards emotional and creative freedom. Following “Massacre” and “Hardness of a Silverspoon”, Murex has just shared the beautiful “Flock Of Swans Fly In V’s”. Celestial soprano harmonies gather around delicate koto and intimate production. Murex has cited Björk’s Vespertine as a companion during one of her most difficult periods, and its intricate, close up atmosphere, as well as its plucked sounds, feel particularly present here. Its title comes from winters in Sweden, when the departure of a nearby flock of swans announced the arrival of the cold. “They knew when to leave and escape the cold that they would never survive, and when to come back and embrace spring,” she explains. “I wish that I would understand that better.” The accompanying video was directed by Murex herself, with camera assistance from @djsuzyy.
