There is always multiples steps when it comes to the end of a relationship. Newcomer JEFFE decided to write about

There is always multiples steps when it comes to the end of a relationship. Newcomer JEFFE decided to write about that moment when you decide to finally let go in mesmerizing debut “WHOEVER YOU LOVE, i’m COOL”.

In between orchestral strings and horns, her songwriting shines. “If I ever confess, I’m the best I’ve ever been in ages,” she sings, as a way of telling her ex-lover that even if the downfall is still hurting, she is ready to move on. We had the chance to discuss with her about her debut, creative process and inspirations.

Highclouds: Can you first introduce yourself and tell us a bit about your relationship with music?

My name is JEFFE. Music has always been a huge influence on my day to day life, it helps me understand and feel things. I started creating music because it was my outlet. For me, it’s almost like writing in a journal, if I feel something I write a song about it and that helps me understand myself and the way that I feel about the things that happen around me.

What are your influences?

There is an abundance of things that influence me… a lot of incredible musicians have helped me discover myself as an artist. People like Amy Winehouse, Jeff Buckley, Neil Young. I love listening to music that sounds absolutely nothing like me though… hearing what people bring to the table when they come from a completely different background is incredibly inspiring.

What can you tell us about your debut “WHOEVER YOU LOVE, i’m COOL.”?

This song is really precious to me. It’s about acceptance of a situation you have no control over. There are so many songs about relationships that cover the same conversation “I’m hurting, it’s over and I can’t let go”… But this song came from a place of empowerment. It’s more along the lines of “I care for you but I understand it’s not going to work, so go and fall in love and I promise to be happy for you”. It reminds me that it’s ok to let go.

Can you describe your creative process?

I have a few different creative processes… sometimes songs just come to me out of nowhere, sometimes it takes me hours to think of the right word to use. I’ve been writing a lot with my producer recently, and we put a lot of thought and energy into the melody and the story. For me though, it’s all about getting that emotion across. Songs come from a place of feeling and I think it’s important to relay that properly.

If you had to put your music into one genre, which one would it be?

Genres… ugh. They get me every time. I find it really difficult to put things into one category. I listen to and love such a wide range of music. But if I had to choose I would say it’s a combination of electro/indie/pop.

“This song came about in a time where I was really finding myself as a person and as an artist” – JEFFE

Why did you decide to release this song as your debut? How does it represent your music?

This song came about in a time where I was really finding myself as a person and as an artist. What better way to put myself out into the world than the song that depicts this fresh new start!?

Which time of the day do you think fits the best to your music?

I’m a nocturnal person, so I would say late night/early hours of morning. But I guess each person is different with their daily schedule. So I’d say whenever you are having a contemplation moment, or need to just zone out for a bit.

What can we expect from you in the future?

There are a few things I have planned that’s all in the works, so keep an ear out!
