Six years after their excellent record Complètement Fou, French duo Yelle (Jean-François Perrier aka GrandMarnier + Julie Budet) have finally announced the release of their fourth album. Following on from “Je t’aime encore,” a bitter love letter addressed to their home country, they’re now back with something totally euphoric. With its syncopated syllables and short sentences, the second single lifted from the album sounds a bit Japanese. It’s actually not a coincidence as it is titled “Karaté”. Like this martial art, it is definitely frontal and straightforward; everything we need at the moment. Listen below and pre-order the album.

It has been six long years since Yelle released their amazing third album Complètement Fou. Since then, the French duo, which comprises Julie Budet and Jean-François Perrie (aka GrandMarnier), has been touring all around the world, dropping a few bops on the way (“Romeo” remains for sure one of our favourites). For those who were very impatient, the veil has now been lifted: Yelle‘s yet-untitled fourth album will be released in September. Alongside this exciting news, they have also unveiled brand a brand new track and video: “Je t’aime encore.”

For this new single, Yelle keeps it minimalistic and melancholy. We’re very far from the fluorescent euphoria of “Complètement Fou,” “Ba$$in,” or “Coca Sans Bulles.” Here, the duo revisits the serenade on a background of elegant keys, as they write a bitter yet tender love letter to France; their home country that tends to ignore them despite their 15-year career.

The track also comes with a very simple video which marks the directorial debut of fashion specialist Loïc Prigent. The clip features the singer Julie as well as Charlie Le Mindu, the French hairstylist who rose to fame thanks to his work with Lady Gaga. The video is, of course, metaphorical: Julie is not trying to seduce someone with her new haircut, but her home country.

Some weeks ago, French sparkling pop duo Yelle promised to unveil a brand new track. Initially planned for July, it got eventually postponed (maybe because of the World Cup, who knows // EDIT Aug 23: The band confirmed on Twitter, this was not the real reason). The wait is now over as Julie Budet and GrandMarnier have just shared the follow up to the excellent “Romeo“. “OMG!!!” is a club-oriented synth-pop single with a surprising break in the middle. It comes with a bold video which was directed by Ines Alpha and Panteros666.

Following up to “Interpassion” which honestly did not totally convince us, we are happy to find back Yelle in a very good shape. The uplifting “Romeo” starts like a famous old (kitsch) song [the video is also retro-inspired] and quickly brings to our ears the unique sound of the duo. This new pop-dance song is dedicated to LOVE with a capital ‘L’, this addictive feeling that can drive us totally crazy, ecstatic, and happy.

A new album is on the way for 2018. It will follow-up to the 2014’s excellent LP “Complètement Fou”.

Yelle are one of the most succesful French acts abroad and this is no surprise that they are bringing their ‘Club Party’ throughout North American this Fall. We do not want to be chauvinistic and scream “French do it better!” but you should really attend one of their shows. It’s better than any antidepressants available on the market.

Known for bringing French pop to non-French speakers, the band is ready to pay tribute to their fans. As a symbol of togetherness, “Interpassion” brings a message of collaboration and love of different cultures, important during this period when hate against foreigners is spreading all over the world. With the first tour of the election for the new President in France in less than two weeks, and, a very popular far-right candidate, the message seems even more important.

As sharing a new perfect single wasn’t enough, they decided to join forces with one of our favorite labels to create an intense new rendition. The trio collaborated before with the label as Sophie and A.G. Cook remixed “Moteur Action” taken from their previous album “Complètement Fou” out in 2014. Kane West gave to the track an acid house turn taking the vocals of Julie Budet to another level and we can’t wait to hear this on a club, very loud.

Taking place in a random suburb, you get to follow Julie Budet‘s (the singer) pretty normal life, alongside comedian Nathan Barnatt who was already behind the video of the remix by Madeon for “Que Veux Tu”. While the singer is enjoying her life taking coffee, exercising or doing normal chores, the comedian enjoys being a mess, doing dance moves around her.

The video reflects that, it’s very here & now, super extra normal! We made it with our friend Nathan Barnatt who we met a few years ago after he’d done a ‘fan’ video of our “Que Veux tu” song remixed by Madeon.
