Like every December, we close a year of music with our traditional lists. After the Best Albums and Best EPs and Mixtapes, we’re happy to unveil the songs that made 2019 according to our team. Are these the best releases of the year ? Maybe yes, maybe no. But for sure, they represent what we have loved over the 12 months.

2019 is also the end of a decade and, even if the blog did not exist 10 years ago, we will try to share our favourite tracks of this era during the first quarter of 2020.

Finally, I’d like to mention that HighClouds would not be the same without its team of dedicated writers. People don’t always realize it but running a blog and contributing, even only from time to time, requires a lot of energy on top of your full-time job. So thank you to each of you for this.

Mississipi-based artist Ryan Kaiser, better known under the moniker Yot Club, caught our attention earlier this year with the release of his Aquarium EP and his single “no way!,” which is already featured in our Best Tracks of 2019 playlist. Using his car as a recording studio, Yot Club doesn’t care about the timeline of the music industry: he is free as a bird and releases tracks whenever he wants. His latest offering, “Fly Out West,” feels like being on holiday. Written after an escapade of two weeks, the single is a sun-kissed, uptempo lo-fi track loaded with luminous synths, swirling guitars and twittering birds. Listen below.

Can you write and record good music with shitty broken gear? No Way! Well, actually you can and 21-year-old singer-songwriter-producer yot club is here to prove it. Hailing from Jackson, Mississippi, the artist has unveiled his incredibly promising demo-ish EP on Soundcloud; a project which was recorded in his bedroom and car. Combining a simple yet infectious melody with reverbed, woozy lo-fi instrumentation, “no way !” is a spleen-loaded gem and one of the highlights of the project. Hailing from Jackson, Mississippi, Ryan Kaiser crafts bedroom pop music under the moniker yot club. Recording his songs between the four walls of his bedroom, the artist sometimes sets up his mini-recording studio in his car. That’s maybe because of the windows of the latter that he named his upcoming debut EP Aquarium. Taken from this new project, the chillwave vibes of “faded” are both nonchalant and sunny and will please for sure all the amateurs of lo-fi indie pop. Tune in below.
