They’re back! WASI return with their first release since their stunning debut EP “Bleed Pop”. “Mama’s Gonna Get You” is a punky, poppy number which is hard not to like. Despite talking about frustrating issues that surround society WASI fill this song with an energetic and upbeat rhythm that will raise your spirits.
WASI, which is an acronym for “”We Are She Is, was founded by high school friends Merilous ‘Cosmo’ Salazar and Jessie Meehan. They started by frantically learning INXS songs for an upcoming gig before branching off into their own territory by finding their own style and writing their own songs. Salazar and Meehan later added Dylan Robin and Garrett Harney on guitar and drums to create a four-piece band. WASI are very vocal within the LGBT scene and often play at rallies, protests and festivals. They hope that by singing and performing at these venues and about LGBT issues they can be a voice for marginalized people.
Talent and hard work have paid off for WASI and you can hear the result on “Mama’s Gonna Get You”
Salazar and Meehan used to be worried that they were being pigeonholed as two lesbian musicians and this image was tainting their breakthrough chances, however due to their persistent personalities and obvious talent they are making waves and many are eager to hear what they come up with in the second EP which they are working on now. Their growing success is a testament to their doggedness and tenacity as they used to self-promote themselves by offering strangers on the street headphones playing their music. Talent and hard work have paid off for WASI and we are looking forward to what else they release soon!
