“The Back Alley” is taken from the Chapter 4 of Mending’s conceptual project We Gathered at Wakerobin Hollow.
Drone ambient-folk act Mending is the duo comprising Chicago-based singer-songwriter Kate Adams and sound artist Joshua Dumas. Since August 2018, they have developed an ambitious narrative universe with their conceptual project We Gathered at Wakerobin Hollow. The story begins with a catastrophic fire at an oil refinery in Odena, Alabama. Through a 40 song speculative song cycle being released in nine chapters, they dive into the daily life of the multiple caracters of this fictive event. Combining the intimate storytelling of the folk tradition with synthesizers, noise and field-recording, their piano-driven fragments of lives sound strikingly realistic and explore a wide range of themes like female friendship, authoritarianism, familial relationships, and the ways climate change is, and will, affect our lives.
