Boyhood's new album, I’ll Dream InStead, is out on September 23, 2026 via Hand Drawn Dracula.

We have been following Boyhood, the bedroom pop project of rural Ontario musician Caylie Runciman, for years now. After emerging from Ottawa’s punk scene more than a decade ago, she went on to release a series of wonderfully offbeat DIY records, including her 2022 album My Dread, which was on heavy rotation around here. More recently, “A Grand Time” landed in our Best Songs of 2025 list. The track will appear on her newly announced album, I’ll Dream InStead, due September 23, 2026 via Hand Drawn Dracula.

Written, performed, recorded and engineered entirely by Runciman, I’ll Dream InStead was largely created from her bed during a rural winter, surrounded by old drum machines and what she describes as “a crappy old Casio.” “This album stemmed from a feeling of desperation,” she explains. That feeling seems to run through its tough guitars, analog feedback, deadpan verses and choppy soundscapes, but the record is also presented as a kind of rebirth, shaped by someone trying to find herself again while everything around her was changing.

The announcement also comes with the album’s opening track, “Loner”, a dusty and immediately hypnotic introduction to Boyhood’s latest transformation. It is quite a departure from the softer pull of “Stroke It” or “Don’t You Dare”, leaning instead into a grittier sound built from cycling drum machines, weathered synths and flashes of guitar distortion. Still, it is just as captivating. Runciman turns isolation into its own private world, casually observing that “People come, and people go . . . but I’m a loner out here.” Withdrawn without ever feeling lifeless, the track captures the strange freedom that can emerge when nobody else is around. Boyhood has also shared an accompanying video, which you can watch below.

Murex's debut album Inventio will be released on September 25 via Young.

Swedish artist Murex is still at the beginning of her journey, but her music already feels like the work of someone building an entire universe from scratch. One of Young’s latest signings, the Stockholm based artist brings her classical training into forward thinking productions where intricate orchestral arrangements melt into glitchy electronica and ethereal avant pop. There are traces of Eartheater in the way her ethereal voice floats through these strange, constantly shifting compositions, while the Baroque spirit running through her music may recall Oklou. What makes her sound truly singular, though, is its distinctly Scandinavian atmosphere, shaped by Nordic folklore and the Swedish landscape.

Her debut album, Inventio, arrives September 25 via Young. Created over three years, the 10 track record began with a period of private, introspective writing before gradually taking shape in her Stockholm studio, across mornings spent swimming and afternoons devoted to production. Named after Bach’s Inventions, which Murex played on the piano growing up, the album unfolds through layered polyphonic melodies that drift seamlessly from one track into the next. Deeply informed by storytelling, it finds her confronting body dysmorphia, control and a fractured sense of identity as she moves towards emotional and creative liberation. “Making this album felt like a return to my physical body,” she explains, “while simultaneously realising that it will never encompass the totality of who I am. Each moment of finding is getting lost, and while my body stores the marks, the different versions of myself continue to evade and dissolve.”

Following the hypnotic “Massacre” and the soaring “Hardness of a Silverspoon”, Murex now shares the beautiful “Flock Of Swans Fly In V’s”, on which celestial soprano harmonies gather around delicate koto and intricate production. The influence of Björk’s Vespertine, which Murex describes as “a companion” during one of her most difficult periods, feels also particularly vivid here. The track seems to hover between a childhood memory and a half remembered dream, taking its title from the winters of her Swedish childhood, when the departure of a nearby flock of swans announced the changing season. “They knew when to leave and escape the cold that they would never survive, and when to come back and embrace spring,” she recalls. “I wish that I would understand that better.” Like her previous visuals, the accompanying video was directed by Murex herself, with camera assistance from DJ Suzy, another great artist worth checking out.
Gloria de Oliveira's new album, The Lying Swans, is set for release October 30 via La Double Vie.

German Brazilian musician and visual artist Gloria de Oliveira has long moved through the kind of dreamy and ethereal worlds we love at HighClouds. In 2022, she joined forces with David Lynch’s longtime sound designer Dean Hurley for Oceans of Time, a sumptuous collection of symphonic ambient music filled with synths, strings and sensitivity. Blending spacey atmospheres, dreamy pop and touches of chilled out shoegaze, the album paired lush, expansive arrangements with de Oliveira’s luminous soprano, which drifted between French, German, Italian and English. Now, she is returning with her third album, The Lying Swans, due October 30 via La Double Vie.

Produced by Randall Dunn and recorded between Iceland, New York and Berlin, The Lying Swans finds beauty and tenderness emerging from the shadows of trauma. The album draws from Gothic fiction, German Romanticism, horror cinema and the Greek myth of Leda, while its sound brings together fantasy and Giallo scores, ancient folk traditions, bossa nova, MPB and Tropicália. Across its nine tracks, de Oliveira explores betrayal, fractured identity and the slow process of learning to trust your own perception again.

The journey begins with the majestic lead single “Fading Faces”, a beautifully vulnerable farewell to darker times that pairs shimmering synths with thunderous drums and glam rock guitars. “This is not only the first single, but also the very first piece of music I wrote when I started working on the album,” de Oliveira explains. Her self directed video takes the song’s dreamlike atmosphere to a mystical Brazilian beach, where she appears stranded between black cliffs and pink sand like a Pre Raphaelite water nymph. You can watch it below, and also stream “Fading Faces” in our Forecast Tape playlist, updated daily with the most notable new releases.

Boy Harsher's new album, GET MEAN, is out on September 18 via Atlantic Records.

Boy Harsher are back in full force. The darkwave duo of Jae Matthews and Augustus Muller recently returned with “Jeans,” a sharp, addictive track about small town dreams, dead end jobs and trying to escape the life expected of you. Its cold synths, dry humour and immediate chorus made it one of the best songs of 2026, and now it turns out it was only the beginning of a much bigger new era.

GET MEAN by Boy Harsher

Boy Harsher have indeed announced their new album GET MEAN, arriving September 18 via Atlantic Records and marking their major label debut. Written after Matthews and Muller ended their romantic relationship in early 2024, the record emerged from grief, uncertainty and a period of constant movement. Recorded across eight locations in the United States, Mexico and Italy, GET MEAN follows the pair as they navigate heartbreak while trying to understand what their creative partnership could become next. Matthews describes it as “what I had to give during the most extreme period of my life.” From what we have heard so far, the album also sounds more straightforward and confirms Boy Harsher’s taste for pop, a genre that the danceable goth duo have occasionally explored through remixes of Nilüfer Yanya’s “Just a Western” and Pet Shop Boys’ “New London Boy.” Across its twelve tracks, their familiar coldwave pulse meets softer synth textures, guitars, voice notes and playful pop touches, turning a breakup album into something more restless, expansive and ultimately hopeful.

The announcement comes with “Hard Beat,” another shadowy dancefloor rush driven by pounding electronics and Matthews’ smoky commands. Boy Harsher also directed the accompanying video alongside cinematographer Owen Smith Clark, drawing inspiration from Helmut Newton and the queer punk energy of Gregg Araki’s films. Cheeky Ma and Mo Stark play a pair of strange lovers racing down an uncanny highway in a vintage Cadillac, while Matthews watches from the backseat beneath a funeral veil. Elsewhere, Angel Zinovieff appears trapped in a tiled room under constant surveillance. Stylish, unsettling and charged with urgency and danger, the video feels unmistakably Boy Harsher.

“Knight in Shining Prada” is part of Overmono’s second album Pure Devotion, out August 7 via XL Recordings

Overmono just dropped a profoundly heartfelt new single, “Knight in Shining Prada,” featuring writer and artist, John Joseph Holt.

The U.K. duo, brothers Tom and Ed Russell, crafted the song using a voice note that Holt sent them in honor of his late brother.

“My brother Thomas Edward Holt had an incredibly adventurous soul that inspired everyone around him,” Holt wrote in an Instagram post. “He took his own life on January 10th, 2017, aged 31. There is no easy way to say that. You bury the pain deep in your heart and the words get stuck in your throat when you try to speak, as the world carries on around you… To make something so positive out of something so crushing is the greatest gift, and I can’t thank Tom, Ed and @williamaspden enough for bringing this song into existence.”

“Knight in Shining Prada” is a standout single on the duo’s upcoming album, Pure Devotion, coming out on August 7 via XL Recordings.

The Russell brothers said they worked on dozens of versions of the single before settling on one they wanted to put out.

“About a year ago he sent us a voice note with a spoken word stream of consciousness that just completely floored us,” they wrote. “We played John’s vocal as loud as we could and sat there with a prophet and 303 listening to it over and over again as the sun came up and the first version started to appear. 83 versions later and it’s done.”

Other tracks on the album including “Lockup,” “Even Angles Ghost,” and “Gem Lingo (ovr now)” have also been released and showcase some of the experimental production techniques that Overmono has adopted, including playing a synth through an old train station speaker, blowing up speakers and baking a crash cymbal in an oven.

Check out the new single, video and upcoming tour dates below.

Tycho and Sea Lemon's “Anotherwave” is out via Mom+Pop in the U.S. and Ninja Tune elsewhere.

Tycho and Sea Lemon dropped a dreamy ambient single this week, “Anotherwave”. The two West coast-based artists teamed up after Tycho’s Scott Hansen said he heard Sea Lemon, a.k.a Natalie Lew, on the radio while driving late at night.

“I was driving through, like the Central Valley and, and Eraser came on and I was just like, what is this?” said Hansen, in a Instagram Live conversation about the song on Wednesday. “I had these few songs that I really felt like needed this really specific kind of vocal treatment. And it just really was like, well, that’s it.”
Hansen and Lew then traded ideas back and forth through Instagram and ended crafting “Anotherwave”.

“When Scott (Tycho) reached out to me and shared this song, I instantly felt a connection to the underwater-like quality of the sounds and textures,” added Lew.

The duo have done some incredible work on their own in recent years, with Lew’s debut 2025 album Diving For a Prize and Hansen’s 2024 album Infinite Health. Tycho has released a series of impressive collaborations over the last few years with a series of artists including ODESZA, Maggie Rogers, Little Dragon, Leon Bridges, and Death Cab for Cutie.

Check out the new single on YouTube and Bandcamp below.

The Avalanches' new track “Every Single Weekend” is out now via Modular Recordings

The Avalanches and Jamie xx came together again this week and gave us a taste of summer with a new track, “Every Single Weekend.”

The plunderphonic pioneers and English producer skillfully weaved together a beautifully upbeat song, alongside a satirical beverage ad video (produced by Jonathan Zawada).

If the single sounds familiar, that’s because it was originally was featured as an interlude on Jamie’s 2024 release, In Waves. They also collaborated on “All You Children” on the album.

“We’ve loved collaborating with Jamie xx over the years – his In Colour album reignited our passion for sampling, and this track is all about letting go, forgetting the 9-5 grind and enjoying every single weekend,” the group said in a press release.

The single came just two weeks after The Avalanches released “Together,” featuring Nikki Nair, Jessy Lanza, and Prentiss. No word yet on if a new album is in the works but are certainly hoping for one.

Listen to both new singles below.

You may know him as one third of Planet1999, a band we regularly featured on HighClouds and in our playlists around 2020, right as they were becoming one of the most distinctive names – and the only band – orbiting the PC Music universe. He also co-produced “February 2017” by Charli XCX featuring Clairo and Yaeji, another reminder of how naturally he moves through forward-thinking pop and electronic spaces. It’s in 2024 that the French producer opened a new chapter with bby3ksn7, a project that feels more instinctive, more fragile, and more open to accidents. It is still electronic music, of course, but with e.motions underneath the glitches, club textures, and a dreamy Y2K sensibility. Beyond music, Teiller is also the founder of Please Do Not Touch magazine, an alternative contemporary art platform rooted in collaboration and experimentation. An outlet that feels very much in tune with the hybrid, digital world surrounding bby3ksn7.

Today, we are happy to debut his crepuscular new single “sun7”, before it officially goes live tomorrow. Led once again by e.v.a, a fictional avatar he introduced on previous releases, the track begins with scattered vocal chops and glowing synths, then slowly blooms into something brighter and more physical. There is a strong Y2K feeling in the way the voices flicker and bend, but “sun7” also carries house warmth, lo fi vibes, and a subtle touch of French House nostalgia. As Charly puts it, the track was imagined as a summer soundtrack: “warm, nostalgic and melancholic, like the end of a day at the beach or the last track of a rave at sunrise.” Listen and support below.
