Tess Roby's new single, "Dream Q", is out via SSURROUNDSS.

Montreal musician Tess Roby has been making her own kind of atmospheric electronic pop for quite some time now. We discovered her back in 2018 with her self-produced debut album Beacon, that she followed up with Ideas of Space in 2022. She’s also part of the synth pop trio Dawn to Dawn, has collaborated with artists like Khotin, Austra, Ouri and Seb Wildblood, and runs her own independent label, SSURROUNDSS. More recently, she’s been releasing music under the name Deep Breath, but it’s been four years since we last heard from her as under her real name.

Now she’s back with “Dream Q”, a gorgeous new track that finds her exploring the more delicate side of electronic music. Her unmistakable voice floats over shimmering synths and ethereal melodies, punctuated by delicate harpsichord notes, while the restless, almost mechanical percussion brings a welcome contrast. The whole thing gradually unfolds, blossoming into something even more beautiful in its second half. Roby wrote and recorded most of the song during a 2024 residency at Canada’s National Music Centre, where she also began working on her third album.

The single comes with an equally elegant video directed by Tess Roby herself, filmed alongside Hugo Bernier and edited by Trevor Blumas of E-Prime. Shot along the striking white cliffs of southern England, the cinematic clip follows her wandering through an almost otherworldly landscape. Watch and support below.

Yvy Veins' debut album, RAW IS EMOTION, arrives October 26.

Yvy Veins are a Spain-based duo made up of Giselle Naranjo and Pedro Ferrer, with a taste for hazy melodies, intimate songwriting and sounds that don’t follow the usual rules of pop music. Somewhere between dream pop, hypnagogic pop and experimental collage, their music brings together guitars, strings and electronic textures, with plenty of room for the unexpected. They’re now getting ready to release their debut album, RAW IS EMOTION, and have just shared its second single, “Observer”.

The track is a gorgeous, slow-moving piece that seems to drift in and out of focus. Acoustic guitars, delicate strings and soft drums come together around vocals that almost blend into the instrumentation. Rather than sticking to a traditional song structure, Yvy Veins let the different layers unfold naturally, creating something that feels intimate yet slightly out of reach. These are definitely not songs or melodies that reveal all their charms straight away, but each listen brings something new to discover.

Lyrically, “Observer” deals with emotional distance and that strange point when words and feelings begin to lose their meaning. What we feel and what others say eventually seem to blur into the same thing, leaving us questioning whether there’s any point in trying to make sense of it all. There’s a certain resignation in the lyrics, but also something strangely comforting about accepting that not everything needs an explanation.

The song’s blurry, almost weightless atmosphere should appeal to fans of the Copenhagen experimental pop scene, as well as anyone with a soft spot for Dean Blunt‘s more elusive indie pop moments. The upcoming album was actually mastered by Emil Thomsen, who has previously worked with artists including Smerz, ML Buch, Fine, The Crying Nudes and Mica Levi.

Yvy Veins‘s “Observer” also somes with a self-made video, that you watch below.

"end scene" is taken from DJ Suzy's Kira Krash, which arrives October 23.

Are you also impatiently waiting for DJ Suzy’s debut album Kira Krash? The trained choral singer and composer turned producer has been teasing the project one track at a time, with “why did i say i loved you”, “speedboat” and “sw33t” blurring glossy pop, R&B, breakbeats and early digital nostalgia. Lucky us, “sw33t” even got a second life through a collaboration with Nourished By Time. Now, just a few weeks before release day, she is sharing the album’s final preview, “end scene”.

“end scene” goes straight for the Y2K melodrama. Layered harmonies, emo pop melodies, dramatic strings and video game inspired textures give the track the feeling of a closing sequence from some lost early 2000s movie or console game. DJ Suzy has specifically pointed to Super Mario Galaxy as part of its sonic DNA, while the lyrics imagine a failed relationship as a film whose script has gone off course. “In ‘end scene’, I’m looking back on a relationship as if it were a movie. I wrote a script for how I wanted the relationship to unfold, but my lover didn’t follow it the way I had imagined,” she explains. By the outro, she is watching the credits roll on the life they shared, with all the drama pushed right to the surface. “I love how the dramatic chords and strings play together with the emo-pop melodies, i’m really happy how it turned out.”
