GiGi Girls and John Moods’ “L’Anima” gets an Italo Disco makeover by Luigi Lazzaro

"L'Anima (Luigi Lazzaro Remix)" is out now via Papercup Records, with the full remix compilation arriving on December 4.

Coming straight from Cologne, GiGi Girls are bringing the golden days of Italian pop back to life, with plenty of dreamy synths, catchy melodies and a good dose of nostalgia. Formed in 2023 by Laura Mancini and Janosch Pugnaghi, later joined by Hannah Berle, the trio made their debut with “La Grotta Dell Amore” before releasing singles like “Pantaloni Rossi” and “Ragazzo”. Earlier this year, they finally dropped their debut album, Greatest Hits, a cheekily titled collection of romantic Italo pop gems featuring collaborations with Jaakko Eino Kalevi and John Moods.

Now, GiGi Girls are revisiting their catalogue with a remix album featuring 18 new versions of their songs. First up is “L’Anima”, their gorgeous duet with John Moods, which Luigi Lazzaro has transformed into a proper Italo disco number. The remix brings a punchier rhythm and infectious 80s energy to the original, without losing its bittersweet charm. There’s an interesting contrast here, too: while the music invites you to dance, the lyrics question our increasingly complicated relationship with artificial intelligence. The song comes with an equally nostalgic video, created by Janosch Pugnaghi. Watch below and stream “L’Anima” remix via our Forecast Tape playlist on Spotify.
