Brooklyn-based artist Leilani Patao (they/she) began their career in 2021, at just 17 years old. Their intimate DIY releases quickly drew attention for their raw honesty and emotional depth, eventually leading to a partnership with Audio Antihero, who will release their upcoming EP, daisy. Leilani describes the project as “a pure experiment” in both sound and how music is shared with the world. Leilani made the decision to remove themselves from the algorithm by withholding these songs from streaming.
The first single of the record is “Cut”, a raw and glitchy single that unpacks the messy complexity of breakups. In Leilani’s own words: “This song is about being kinda bad at break ups. I would have done anything this person wanted of me if it would just make them happy. And if it meant I had to hurt them over and over in little ways, if they wanted me to say what they didn’t want to hear, if they wanted me to run when they lashed out, I would do it.
