Although Men I Trust‘s last record was titled Untourable Album (2021), the Montreal dream-pop band has been ironically performing all around the globe over the past few years. While their musical output slowed since 2022, with only a handful of singles released, the band has now broken their silence with “Husk,” their first offering of 2024.
As usual, Men I Trust‘s latest track doesn’t disappoint, showcasing the band’s signature production finesse. “Husk” explores the more upbeat side to Men I Trust, reminiscent of “Billie Toppy” or the excellent “Tailwhip,” yet maintains their singular smoothness. Their new song effortlessly bridges the gap between yacht rock and indie pop, enveloping us in its dreamy atmosphere. Emmanuelle Proulx‘s ethereal vocals float above a backdrop of subtle, shimmering guitars, mysteriously singing: “Erosion, shadow be thy husk / Go downwards, at your behest / Devotion, hard to find / Repay me, in kind.”
