I lost my dad to pancreatic cancer this time last year, shortly after I met Michael & Spenser and we formed “closely”.
Brussels-based electronic artist Haring is one of the best producers our country has to offer. Paying tribute to his new

Brussels-based electronic artist Haring is one of the best producers our country has to offer. Paying tribute to his new town, he shared the track “Brussels (Part 1)”

The 24-year-old artist is becoming an unavoidable act in the electronic scene, exporting all around the world the Belgian expertise. Picking his name from American artist Keith Haring, his last three EPs (2013’s “Gold Coast/Translation” and “Above Mountains,” 2014’s “Nowadays” and 2015’s “Late Night Dream”) have developed his character going from beat music to more chill house track exploring melancholic sounds, proper to gloomy Belgium. For his new release, he took some time to discuss his relationship with Brussels, Europe, his recently launched label “City Tracks” and his soon-to-be-released debut album.

Highclouds: Can you introduce yourself for our readers who don’t you know you yet?

I’m Haring, a belgium based electronic music producer. I like tea and hot chocolate. I also compose music in my bedroom studio in Schaerbeek (Brussels).

“I’ve learned many things while living here. I’ve met lot of new people, experimented a new life and of course lived really positive experiences and some bad too” – Haring about Brussels

How your music have evolved since the release of your first EP “Golden Coast/Translation”?

Ouh! “Gold Coast / Translation” was one of my first releases… The project has evolved so much since that time… Back to those days, I started producing beats on my computer without knowing exactly the software I was using (Ableton Live). Since then, I’ve learned so much about electronic music, softwares, machines, controllers,… I got a lot of new inspirations, I travelled a lot and getting more confident in my music. My vibes has also changed, I’m more into house and minimal music than beat music as before.

You just release your new track “Brussels (Part 1).” How does the city inspire your music? Is it a tribute?

We can absolutly define it as a tribute to Brussels! This city is my hometown for 6 years now, I’ve learned many things while living here. I’ve met lot of new people, experimented a new life and of course lived really positive experiences and some bad too… I don’t know what exactly the song says about Brussels but It definitely talks about my time here!

What do you think about the electronic scene of Brussels and how do you think it has changed since the attacks?

I don’t think if there is a link between the electronic scene and the attacks. What I can say is that the electronic is more developed than when I’ve moved. There is a lot of new producers coming out all the time, more structures, etc. but I think electronic music has still a long way to go. It remains a bit hard to keep doing your stuff in a suitable way. However, there is a lot a venues, festivals, etc. which support more and more the electronic music scene.

“The releases will be from the electronic artists that we love, this is the only criteria!” – Haring about his record label

You are preparing the release of your first LP. What can you tell us about it?

What I can tell you is that I am working on my debut album, I am very very excited to release it soon (I hope) and that’s gonna a new step for me!

You recently launched your record label “City Tracks.” How do you pick the tracks for your record label?

I’ve launched this new label with my friend François and the releases will be from the electronic artists that we love, this is the only criteria! It is not gonna be a big structure (but who knows?) and we will also doing bookings for some artist friends!

What role do you think independent record labels play in the electronic scene, specially in Belgium?

Probably offering the best support for great artists!

This weekend, you are playing at Europavox, a festival that promotes the European musical diversity. In which way your travels around Europe inspire your music?

I have the chance to travel quite a lot. I mean, I guess people travel more probably because it is more accessible, so I am a part of this generation. Travelling is something really important to me. I always get a lot of inspirations, feelings and memories that I translate into music once back home! I had the chance to live in Istanbul last year for 6 months, this city has awesome vibes! When I came back I have released two songs “Bozkurt Cad. / Night Jaunt” that I composed out there.

2016 is just ending. Can you recommend us one track released this year?

The best song that define how 2016 was is “Midnight On Rainbow Road (Beat Edit)” by Leon Vynehall

[su_youtube url=”https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KnbR_w0AsD0″]

You can follow Haring over Facebook, Twitter and Soundcloud.

The London-based trio KYOTI have capped up a modest year with the release of a new single titled “Chimera”. After the debut single “Cave In” was released in May, the group followed up with “Curved Edge, Straight Line,” then by “Acceptably Sane” and the trajectory has shown the three-piece, made up of Benji Huntrods, David Mabbott and Ed Burgon, ability to delve deeper into their -identifiable style.

Kyoti‘s track draws from John Grant’s intelligent lyrical prowess fused with the minimalist textures associated with electro producers such as SOHN, James Blake and Kavinsky. The group’s lead singer explained:

[su_quote]

“Chimera” is about moving past the loss of a loved one, and that strange internal conflict you feel at times of great change.

London-based friends Shuteye and Ralph Taylor are out with their second collaboration “The More I Learn,” a chilled out downtempo house realm that shuttles between powerful basslines and smooth vocals.

The song deals with the struggles of growing up, how it somehow stifles our creativity and penchant for experimentation as we learn more technical stuff.

Shuteye is a musician whose song is textured, and informed, with influences coming from a range of genres including techno, jazz, and Afrobeats. The track was featured on BBC Introducing Kent program as the song of the week, and also featured an interview with Shuteye.

Former member of the Norwegian pop duo Philco Fiction, Turid Alida Soldberg, has decided to go solo and has released her debut single “This Time/Remember” as Else Born. The track is a heavy-hearted mid-tempo track with mild synths, soft percussive elements, and soothing vocals.

The track has already been used as the soundtrack to a Berlin-based series “One City, One Girl” produced by Stella McCartney. The singer has also been featured on one of the finest Horixon tracks to date titled “Colours”.

The single was equally accompanied by two remixes by Los Angeles-based electronic duo Blue Motel (Julien Nolan and Thomas Toccafondi), who are notable for doing remixes for artists such as Classixx, Poolside, Turbotito & Daniel T. and Kraak & Smaak. The main remix has been transformed from its sad outlook into an incredible daytime disco filled with faint synths, guitar licks, and Balearic feel. You can listen to it below.
After the release of his debut track “Your Side,” Hertfordshire’s native Petrie released his second single “To Swim” via Good

After the release of his debut track “Your Side,” Hertfordshire’s native Petrie released his second single “To Swim” via Good Groove Records.

Creating a natural bridge between sweet pop with deep electronic sounds, the artist is leaving us with a taste of perfection. Opening with some basic vocals and a synth line, the track jumps into a bass-driven place where it is almost impossible not to dance. The song is simple, yet full of details, efficient as any pop songs. Inspired by James Blake and Jamie XX, Petrie is graving his name in the alt-pop landscape.

Speaking on the song, the artist explained:

[su_quote]

“To Swim” is both a series of observations on hedonism and a cautionary tale with an unnerving description of comfort obsessed youth.

[/su_quote]

His raw lyrics, adventurous electronic vibes, we can tell you for sure that we will following Petrie‘s career from very close. His debut EP is set to be released on 2017 and for now you follow him on Facebook, Soundcloud, Twitter and Instagram. You can also listen to his previous track “Your Side” below.

A few months later after the release of “Divine Disaster,” XO is back with a new track “Waiting Game” taken

A few months later after the release of “Divine Disaster,” XO is back with a new track “Waiting Game” taken from his debut project that is due to be released early 2017.

Completing his entire career based on alt-R&B where his dark eerie basslines are married to his dreamy vocals, XO is coming back with a new record that will not leave you disappointed. A part in between FKA twigs and James Blake, the singer/producer creates around his music a full idea of dark melancholy accompanied with hopeful signals. He puts so much attention to details that the track is a full expedition from the beginning to the end, always surprising us with every single sound.

He also took some time to release a video co-directed and shot by XO and Beck Clewlow where they decided to show a reflection of his soul thanks to epileptic images of flowers, clouds and visions all over his face and body. The track, like all of his previous singles, remains very personal, as explained by XO himself:

[su_quote]

The inspiration for “Waiting Game” came from a very raw, vulnerable place. I feel like I’m pushing boundaries and really letting my guard down to give the listeners a real piece of me for the first time.

[/su_quote]
[su_youtube url=”www.youtube.com/watch?v=BY0tRtWgK64″]

You can follow XO over Facebook, Soundcloud and Twitter.
