Fever Ray shares video for “North”, announces new tour dates

Arnaud Marty — Thu, 10 Aug 2023 16:53:35 +0000

**“North” is taken from Fever Ray‘s Radical Romantics, out now via Mute Records.**

With Fever Ray, winter is always coming. Earlier this year, the project led by Karin Dreijer released Radical Romantics, one of our favorite albums of 2023. Following up to the “Shiver,” “Kandy,” “What They Call Us,” and “Even It Out” videos, they just unveiled new visuals, directed by Martin Falck, for the icy and dry “North.” Dreijer co-produced the track with Nine Inch Nails’ Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross as well as regular collaborator Johannes Berglund.

Alongside the video, they also added some additional dates to their tour.

Fever Ray on tour:

08-17 Praia do Taboão, Portugal – Paredes de Coura Festival
08-19 London, England – Field Day
08-20 Biddinghuizen, Netherlands – Lowlands Festival
08-25 Paris, France – Rock en Seine
11-05 Austin, TX – Emo’s

Five years after Plunge, Karin Dreijer dug up Fever Ray to release the single “What They Call Us.” Today, Dreijer actually announced that a new album is on the way. Crafted in collaboration with their brother and fellow former The Knife partner Olof Dreijer, Radical Romantics will also feature contributions from Nine Inch Nails‘ Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross amongst others.

Fever Ray also shared a new single, “Carbon Dioxide,” co-produced by Vessel, as well as an accompanying visualizer. Watch the visuals and pre-order the album via Bandcamp below.

Fever Ray returns with “What They Call Us” video

Arnaud Marty — Wed, 05 Oct 2022 13:37:29 +0000

Fever Ray‘s “What They Call Us” is out now via Rabid.

After a long series of teasers on social media, The Knife‘s Karin Dreijer makes their return as Fever Ray with “What They Call Us.” Written and co-produced alongside Olof Dreijer, the consuming track also comes with a video, directed by Martin Falck. It follows Dreijer in a boring office that progressively turns into a surreal and quite dark farewell party. One can read an ambiguous “it’s your last day” on a wall. Watch below.

Fever Ray shares video for “Wanna Sip”, announces American tour

Matias Calderon — Wed, 24 Jan 2018 14:11:45 +0000

Following the series of fetish BDSM videos for the promotion of her last album “Plunge“, Fever Ray shares the video of “Wanna Sip”. She also announced a North American tour.

The Martin Falck-directed video follows the artist having a gross diner. The rendition is weirdly sexual and we are into it. The video announces a series of live shows scheduled in the US and Canada, that will follow her European tour that starts early this year. The North American tour starts in New York City on May 12, and concludes in May 26 in Oakland, California.

Highclouds: 20 albums of 2017

Matias Calderon — Wed, 20 Dec 2017 16:36:53 +0000

Considering the constant decay of album sales in the past decade, it has become a challenge for artists to release more than a few tracks at the same time. While some come back from the ashes and release an album after years of silence, others handle to release more than one a year. Here is a list of the albums that blew our minds in 2017.

Highclouds: 20 videos of 2017

Matias Calderon — Mon, 18 Dec 2017 17:07:53 +0000

2017 was a busy year when it comes to incredible videos. From the unapologetically queer videos of Perfume Genius, Brendan Maclean, Fever Ray or The Blaze, to the out of the world artistry of Rive or Björk. Here is a selection of our favorite videos of this year.

[su_spacer]

1- Brendan Maclean – “House Of Air” (Director: Brian Fairbairn and Karl Eccleston)

Brendan Maclean‘s “House of Air” is probably the NSFW-est video you might have seen this year. It is also one of the most realistic, controversial, and marketable one. Presented as an anthropological study of gay semiotics, taxonomies, and sexual behaviours”, the Hal Fisher-inspired video doesn’t dance around the topic to present gay sex, bondage and more. Strangely, the video was uploaded on YouTube and was banned ten days after with 700,000 views. Directed by Brian Fairbairn and Karl Eccleston, the final rendition is graphic and can’t be more real. It it art, documentation, entertainment, or pornography? Here is the interest and no one can really answer but Maclean is sure about the artistic side of his proposition: “This was never a ‘marketable’ idea, but it was an original one that I cared about. Was it for everyone? Absolutely not. Has it been the most success I’ve had with anything ever? Absolutely.”

[su_divider]
[su_youtube url=”https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m_S0qCeA-pc”]

2-SOPHIE – “It’s Okay To Cry” (Director: SOPHIE)

We are fans of SOPHIE’s work since Day 1 and with this new track and video, the producer is pushing the boundaries even further. For the first time ever, she is even starring in her video. SOPHIE appears as androgynous and the visuals come out with a statement from the artist who want to be referred to using she/her pronouns. The interesting part of the colorful emo-dramatic visuals mainly lies in the representation of nudity: as one can notice, SOPHIE is freely exhibiting her breast (and nipples) but YouTube did not censor anything. The appearance of the producer is so gender fluid though, that the arbitrations of YouTube on that specific topic seem to be totally outdated. And it’s useless to add that the fact she also used the same colors than our website was a solid artistic statement.

[su_divider]
[su_youtube url=”https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_n0Ps1KWVU0″]

3- Björk – “The Gate” (Director: Andrew Thomas Huang)

Alongside long time collaborator Andrew Thomas Huang, a dress by Gucci‘s Alessandro Michele and masks by James Merry, Björk delivers one of the most intense videos of the year. After exploring her sadness after the break-up of a 13 year-old relationship in “Vulnicura”, she decided that it was time to open herself again to love. From an open chest wound featured in the previous videos, there is a prismatic portal of futuristic lovers awaiting for her. In a world where everything is possible, there is space from healing of a hearbreak. The first single taken from her ninth album “Utopia” is an authentic piece of art, and it comes after years of pushing the limits of visual creations. Björk‘s ambition gets even bigger and we expect nothing less from her.
