True to the HighClouds spirit, we’ve once again tried to shine a light on overlooked releases and new or under-the-radar artists alongside some more familiar names. The two tracks don’t sound much alike, but they both carry that signature Magdalena Bay magic: lush, trippy, layered production. The band themselves put it best: “Here’s another pair of songs that complement each other — different than the last, different than the next.” These new songs follow last month’s “Second Sleep” and “Star Eyes,” which the band teased by inviting fans to submit their dreams to a digital dream journal on their website. Together, the two double singles feel like a breadcrumb trail leading somewhere bigger. And that “somewhere” is shaping up to be pretty exciting.

Magdalena Bay are also preparing a film to celebrate the one-year anniversary of their 2024 album Imaginal Disk. The date’s still under wraps, but if the recent singles are any indication, there’s plenty more imagination (and surprises) ahead.

In the meantime, you can dive into the worlds of “Human Happens” and “Paint Me A Picture” below.

The project was revealed only a few hours ago to mark the record’s first anniversary. “Surely our most ambitious undertaking thus far,” they wrote on socials. “This thing will be done at some point… soon… and we will share more information imminently.”

Imaginal Disk includes singles like “That’s My Floor,” “Tunnel Vision,” “Image,” and “Death & Romance,” along with other gems such as “Cry For Me.” Can’t wait to see all of these tracks come to life in a full movie.

This new remix, titled “Image (Grimes Special),” dives into darker territory than the original track. It opens with a pitched-up voice intoning, “The seats are empty. The theater is dark. So, why do you keep dancing?” Whether this remix will feature on a forthcoming remix album or a deluxe version of Imaginal Disk is still under wraps. Stay tuned!

After a series of conceptual EPs, mixtapes, and an amazing debut album shared via Luminelle Recordings, Magdalena Bay, one of our favorite pop acts of all time, is ready to open a new chapter in their career. Mica Tenenbaum and Matthew Lewin have just unveiled their new single “Death & Romance,” which is also their first released under their new label, Mom+Pop Music.

“Imagine rain pouring, streetlights glowing,” the Los Angeles-based duo stated about this new song. “You sit at home and wait for your alien boyfriend to pick you up in his UFO…but this time, he’s not coming.”

Alongside the single, the duo also announced the The Imaginal Mystery Tour today, a series of North American headline shows.

A few weeks ago, Magdalena Bay announced a new edition of their excellent debut album Mercurial World and shared a Danny L Harle remix of their banger “Chaeri”. The Los Angeles-based pop duo have now detailed the full project, which they describe as “a mish mosh of sorts, an amalgamation of new songs that didn’t originally fit the flow of Mercurial World, of reimagined versions of existing album tracks by us and some talented remixers, plus some special secrets.” According to Mica Tenenbaum and Matthew Lewin, fans can also expect this new version “to flow like the original album did.”

Earlier this year, Soccer Mommy released the acclaimed and Daniel Lopatin-produced album Sometimes, Forever. One of the highlight off the record, “Shotgun” just got a remix treatment by HighClouds favourites, Magdalena Bay. And as expected, this new version is a synth feast. One of our favourite albums of 2021, Magdalena Bay‘s debut record Mercurial World will be reissued in September in a deluxe version. “The Deluxe is a miss mosh of sorts, an amalgamation of new songs that didn’t originally fit the flow of Mercurial World, of reimagined versions of existing album tracks by us and some talented remixers, plus some special secrets,” they explained. “When we started working on the Deluxe, we wanted it to flow like the original album did. These secrets tie the record together in a cool way, we can’t wait for everyone to hear it.” Alongside the announcement, they also shared a Danny L Harle remix of their masterpiece “Chaeri” as well as the itinerary of their upcoming tour.
